Bernstein insisted, along with a wealth of experience, it was this that made him the most appropriate candidate for football's impossible job.
"He has outstanding contacts through his work with Uefa and Fifa," Bernstein said. "He can walk into any training ground around the world and command respect."
Perhaps more surprisingly, given the FA selection committee's insistence that the man unveiled at Wembley on Tuesday enjoyed an elevated reputation abroad, Schweinsteiger also admitted he had little knowledge of Roy Hodgson or his career.
"The other one, I just don't know," he said
"I don't know him that well," Heynkes said. "But I've followed the discussions and also heard the opinions of the national team players and they would have preferred the Tottenham manager.
As for concern at the possibility of meeting England and their new manager in the latter stages of Euro 2012, Lahm insisted nothing had changed in the attitude of the German team to their old adversaries.
"Frightened of England with Hodgson?" he smiled. "No, we are not frightened of anybody."

I bet the FA have been getting in touch with certain england players, asking them to make positive comments about Bodger.
They are very lucky they don't have to see him to often out of tournaments, that's all i can say.

On the eve of Rafa's sacking, before the Spaniard was told and before the public were made aware, Christian Purslow sent a private email in the early hours to someone who's name I need to keep private, in which it said that Rafa would be sacked in the morning. Sadly for Purslow, he sent it to the wrong person by mistake and it ended up in my mailbox. In that email - which I have retained for my infamous book - Purslow talks of the 'brief' i.e. how they're going to present the decision to move Rafa out.

I cracked up at that bit and couldn't read any further.

I think he will because there is an understanding that the team isn't ready for the Euros and that a new manager will have limited time. I'm still not convinced that he is a bad choice for a limited squad. If he gets his selction right in terms of players willing to adopt his methods then I think he will surprise people.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostHodgson and his team of buffoons won't last a year
In international football most teams that punch above their weight are based on simple tactical patterns and a fairly defensive game plan. His team have scored more or less the same number of goals as this season with much less talent in the team. His biggest problem, as it has been for the last few England managers, is the egos in the camp."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I can't see England's best players warming up to him. England as a team (I include the supporters in that as well) expect far more and I don't think it will change.Originally posted by dww View PostI think he will because there is an understanding that the team isn't ready for the Euros and that a new manager will have limited time. I agree with you about the tactical side of things though. He can succeed with limited tactics in one off tournaments. That's my worst nightmare.
Are we winning?

**** source but so true, apart from when he speaks.
BODY language expert Judi James believes Roy Hodgson could turn out to be an unlikely hero.
She said: “I’ve never seen a less likely looking leader in terms of body language.
“His leadership skills don’t exactly leap off the page.
“The main thing he showed is his shoulders were hunched and his head held low, which is a sign of submission.
“When he arrived he looked startled, with his eyes wide and mouth open. He looked like someone had dragged him off the street and offered him the job.
“He looked twitchy, which is something we would usually associate with anxiety and nervousness.
“The good news is that when he spoke it was obvious he’s not a showboater.
“There were signs when he started speaking of intellect.
“He was very good one-onone and there were signs of strong determination.
“He’s probably less of a pushover than he looks.”

Watching TV last night the Friday night satirises and comedians were having a field day. It seems that now the dust has settled some people are realising what an utterly mental appointment he is. He is going to be soooo out of his depth, the main thing an international manager needs in handling the media is charisma, Royi s a prickly old ****, who thinks he is better and cleverer than everyone else, I can't see him having what it takes to bounce back from even one defeat.
He is a lamb to the slaughter, it is going tobe AMAZING watching the situation unravel. I can't imagine a single England player being excited by his appointment, and he will do well to win them over.
The Telegraph article with the German players is about the most accurate media take I have read on his appointment, "Roy who?".Last edited by Buzzo; 05-05-12, 10:23 AM.Modifying post.
