Andy Carroll and Rob Green to start for England against Norway

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll and West Ham goalkeeper Rob Green will start for England in Saturday's Euro 2012 warm-up match against Norway in Oslo.

Manager Roy Hodgson said: "Andy ended the season well and has continued in the same vein with us, and that was after a difficult start at Liverpool.

"I know what I am going to do but I haven't told the players yet. The back four takes care of itself.

"Rob Green will be in goal and Steven (Gerrard) will start as captain".

to be fair he's hardly from the wimbledon style of football is he? I think he means there's no need fannying around like spain do at times when you can get it forward quicker and more effectively. we don't have technically gifted players like the spanish so there's no point just knocking it about for the sake of it. I actually think roy will do a good job with England. But then it depends how you define good, we are never winning anything anytime soon.

Not exactly what I was saying. We don't have players with anywhere near the technical skills of the spanish. so there is no point trying to copy the spanish way as the way forward with our lot.

there are times when a more direct approach works, that cannot be argued. christ a long ball to torres at times under rafa worked a treat. it's when that direct approach is the template and the only plan on the table there is a problem.

watching roy's team at fulham and west brom is nothing like watching wimbledon of old, cambridge under john beck or some of the stuff sam served up at bolton. roy is a dinosaur by modern day thinking but his teams do not play long ball ala the previous managers I name.

Hate him by all means but I don't see why everything he says is over analysed. england haven't even kicked a ball under him yet.

Egil Olsen, current Norway coach and former Wimbledon manager, has said Hodgson's preferred style of play is much the same as his.
