He's a ****ing gob****e who treated the Liverpool managers job as if he were managing a stoke or a Wigan. If Shanks were running the club, Hodgson wouldn't have got a foot in the door let alone become manager.

I pissed myself laughing when he was refused entry to the directors box. Should have been made to perch up on the roof the owly cunt.

Joey Barton criticises England team and Alex Ferguson ahead of World Cup qualifier against Montenegro
QPR midfielder on familiar controversial ground in rant against English football culture and Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching credentials

Joey Barton last night branded England “s---” on the eve of their biggest game for more than a year.

Barton also claimed Sir Alex Ferguson “could not put on a coaching session to save his life” and accused Football Association Greg Dyke of not having the “balls” to tackle the country’s failure to produce enough youngsters of international standard.

In a wide-ranging and typically outspoken contribution to the Leaders in Football conference in London, the QPR midfielder launched a stinging attack on the media, claiming it had not right to judge footballers, adding: “Hence, the English national team are s--- at the minute.

“How long do we have to talk about how bad it is?”

The irony of Barton’s attack 24 hours before England’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Montenegro was lost on the 31-year-old, who arrived late to yesterday’s event after getting stuck in traffic.

He quickly made up for lost time, slamming the state of British coaching and even aiming a barb at former Manchester United boss Ferguson.

“I am not here to disrespect Fergie,” he said. “He is a great manager, the icon, the pinnacle of British management.

“But he couldn’t put on a coaching session to save his life. I’ve spoken to people about him and he can barely lay out cones. This is not a coach, this is a manager.

"There is a big, big difference between a coach and a manager.”

But Barton directed much of his ire at the FA and Dyke’s commission into the state of the English game.

“What’s the point?” said the man capped once by England in 2007. “I am an extremist and I am at this phase in life where I am struggling with democracy.

“I don’t think it works. I think we need a totalitarian figure, who knows what he wants and goes with it because at least he is accountable.

“It is quite a smart move if you’re Greg Dyke because now you have put eight other people in front of you to deflect the criticism when it no doubt comes your way when we fall short at the next World Cup, the next European Championship.

“The Premier League have made a smart move in terms of isolating themselves. Why would you want to be a part of it when you’ve got such a great product?

“I just don’t get it, the commission. I don’t get it. The whole point of hiring Greg Dyke surely was because he knows what he is doing or at least has got an idea?

“At least have the balls to stand up and say, ‘This is what I want to do, this is how I want to do it’.”

Discussing how he would tackle the problems identified by Dyke, Barton came close to swearing again, saying: “We need more English players playing football, not this academy sh …”

He added: “It is a scary time as an Englishman who cares passionately about your football.

“The Football Association is archaic, it is completely and utterly out of its depth.

“The FA’s responsibility is to care about English football. They have no power apart from banning players and stuff.”

Profanities continued to flow when Barton touched on the ills of modern society, while he also hit out at England’s so-called “golden generation” furore surrounding Jack Wilshere smoking.

As for Barton, he touches on bits that are right with regards to the FA - he just lacks the intelligence to articulate those points correctly; It will be discarded as another Barton tirade that escaped his froffing mouth.

These targets that Dyke has set are just like most targets, they're pie-in-the-sky. It'll be interesting to see what Danny Mills can cook up (geddit, Sarb!) alongside Hoddle and Humphreys. However, I imagine it to be **** all

Capello would have been able to build up English football from top to bottom if they would have backed him. It may have taken him 10+ years to do it but after that time England would be top class IMO.

They got in the man they needed and sacked him

They now instead have people that will set them back even more. I didn't think that was possible but then they signed up Roy and a few others that don't almost even know that fire exist.

there was a bloke whose name i didnt catch chatting on talksport this evening about doing a bit of a recce into futsal and reporting to the fa that this is what we should be going with. this was back in the early 90s, and the dinosaurs just poo pooed it.

he spent some time in south america, and was talking about the young talent in the prem, like coutinho and oscar, etc.

                    interesting.

The Spanish football revolution started with futsal. I actually think that the club should start up a futsal team.

Would help our young talents training up their technique and skill a lot IMO.

definitely the way to go. we should have all under 15s playing it, and only occasionally going to full size pitches.

                          Pretty amazing remark by SG:

"I have played some of my most consistent football under Roy, so I have a lot to thank him for.”

Haha they were all over it anyway. Redknapp's answer would be that he merely received those texts from the England players. He said in court he didn't know how to send one.

Anyway Gerrard said that text stuff was total BS
