Agent: City want Drenthe
Manchester City have emerged as surprise bidders for former Everton winger Royston Drenthe, who is currently a free agent after leaving Goodison Park in May.
Drenthe's agent told Goal.com that he had received interest from City, as well as West Ham and Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev - but that the opportunity to join the Premier League champions has come as a particular surprise.
"We didn't expect this either, but they asked me about his numbers, how much he would cost salary-wise," he said. "There are also clubs from the Serie A and Turkish clubs interested and also Dynamo Kiev.""We have no complaints about the interest, but the most important thing is that Royston gets back on the pitch again. He prefers playing for a club in the Champions League, so City, Kiev and the Turkish big clubs have his favour at this moment."
Drenthe made 27 appearances at Everton last season, scoring four times, after joining on loan from Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old Dutchman previously had a loan spell at Spanish side Hercules in which he barely endeared himself to fans with his outspokenness, and also accused Lionel Messi of racially abusing him.
And his time at Real Madrid, whom he joined from Feyenoord in 2007, was punctuated by patchy performances and difficult relations with the club's fans.

Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez has had a medical at Manchester United ahead of a £4million transfer to the club from Universidad de Chile.
The 18-year-old, who has 11 goals from 18 appearances for the South American club, underwent a medical at Manchester's Bridgewater Hospital after United took up their option to sign on Henriquez's transfer.
The news comes as Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson continues his chase for Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who reportedly remains available for a fee of £20million.

Ngog on Fulham's wanted list
Wanderers are refusing to be drawn on Fulham’s reported interest in striker David Ngog.
The Cottagers are believed to be lining up a £3 million bid for the 23-year-old after missing out on Huddersfield hitman Jordan Rhodes, with boss Martin Jol keen to add to his attacking department amid rumours of a possible exit for USA international Clint Dempsey.
It is understood, however, no formal approach has been made for the man Wanderers signed from Liverpool 12 months ago, despite reports to the contrary. And boss Owen Coyle is reluctant to sell after dismissing links with a move for Ngog to St Etienne last month which would take him back to France.
Ngog managed just four goals in 27 appearances last season after a knee injury hampered the first half of his campaign. And he has yet to play a full 90 minutes so far in pre-season with a back problem preventing him from training .
Coyle is hoping Ngog will be fit for Saturday’s npower Championship opener at Burnley and is unlikely to entertain any sale in the meantime, particularly at a price below the £4 million the Whites forked out a year ago.
Ngog.
I said he'd score 12-15 PL goals for Bolton last season.

Likely to be bollocks but seems a snip for this guy - he's rated highly isn't he?Everton are in talks with Olympiakos as they hope to secure a £5.3m deal for forward Kevin Mirallas.
Mirallas, 24, can play both up front and out wide, and caught the eye with 20 goals in 25 appearances last season. Everton are looking to further strengthen their squad after the permanent signing of Steven Pienaar and free transfer of Steven Naismith.
The move for Mirallas follows the sale of midfielder Jack Rodwell, who joined Manchester City for £12m on Sunday. Mirallas, who has scored seven times for Belgium, helped Olympiakos to the Greek league championship last season - their 39th title in their history.Hello mert.

i reckon its true. He's been pimped around most of europe the past 12 months and not a single club appears to want to take it past the "interested" stage. Must be an underlying reason behind that.Originally posted by Fivex View Posthttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19265336

Isn't he Spurs only striker at the moment? Unless Bale's squad number in pre-season (9) is an indicator on where they're planning on playing him this seasonOriginally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Posthttp://www.teamtalk.com/news/2483/79...-serious-talks
Anyone for defoe? Frustrated at spurs bit part role. 17 goals last year mainly as a sub. defoe, borini, suarez not a bad front line. He still has bags of pace as well.
Seems strange that they haven't brought in anyone to play up front especially since they didn't tie up a deal for AdebayorWe managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

Looks like Levy has budged on this one as they were reported to be wanting 30m.Sky Sports sources understand that Luka Modric is to fly to Spain on Thursday to finalise a move to Real Madrid from Tottenham.
It is thought that the transfer could now be completed quickly after the clubs finally agreed a fee following months of uncertainty.
Reports suggest that a compromise has been reached that will see Real pay an initial fee of £23.6million, plus a further £3.9m in add-ons.
Tottenham are believed to have accepted Real's offer now to give them enough time to sign a replacement before the window slams shut at the end of the month.
If the move goes through it would bring to an end a four-year spell at White Hart Lane for Modric, during which time he has developed into one of the Premier League's most impressive performers.
The Croatia international was linked with a move to Chelsea last summer but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy stood firm to keep him at the club.
However, intense speculation resurfaced ahead of the current transfer window and Modric made no secret of his desire to move on.
New Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas criticised Modric after he did not travel to the United States for their pre-season tour, and the 26-year-old has continued to train apart from the rest of the squad.
Villas-Boas has already strengthened his midfield with the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson since replacing Harry Redknapp at the Tottenham helm, while Joao Moutinho has been linked with a move to join up with his former Porto manager.
They are very short up front, need at least 2 strikers in before the end of the window and maybe another midfielder with Modric going.Originally posted by Gaz View PostIsn't he Spurs only striker at the moment? Spurs are going to really struggle this season imo. They are going to massively miss Modric, Adebayor and also King.
Adebayor was responsible for 45% of Spurs goals last year( Goals and assists) thats a big gap to fill._____________________________________
