The only negative with Dempsey is his age doesn't fit in with the new philosophy, but 29 isn't really that bad and a balance of youth and experience is beneficial. He's not Messi but he's still a bloody good footballer who scores loads of goals, for £4m it would be stupidity to not at least consider him as an option.

We're not going to progress from being a team in 8th place to challenging for the title, we need players who can help us to get closer to the top four in the first instance. Well the rumours have been so wrong, on so many occasions i think whomever you get this info from is full of **** and we would have thought you would have questioned it by now. I reckon Dempsey's not a bad signing - a good option to have and a reasonable goal scorer with a Prem experience. Obviously we all want to sign the next Messi. but until then we need a squad with strength and depth and Dempsey would give us a bit of both.

Yeah, I guess I take a more moderate line than you in stating my opinion. But yeah, hard to see why he wouldn't more than play his part for us.. He would fill the much anticipated token yank role in the squad for FSG too
