That seems rather skewed way of looking at the total article. Those stats come from playing in a variety of positions. Overall the impression I got form the comparisons was fairly positive. The competition there is pretty stiff, do you think Suarez is **** too?"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

You see this type of thing pisses me off so I'll bite. Every single manager has buys that don't work out, it's all relative to the budget they have to work with and how many players needed with that budget.Originally posted by danperkins View Post
swings and roundabouts, and rafa had signed serious duffers too which have been conveniently left out.
Go on then LDP who are the duffers that he bought?
In fact I'll counter your list before you even post it -
Morientes £6m - Every single LFC fan was delighted when we got him, proven striker who didn't get the goals his overall displays warrented, probably (in hindsight) wasn't suited to the PL.
Pennant £6m - Yeah wasn't a world beater and an utter dick off the field but provided width that we haven't had since and was MOM in the 07 CL Final.
Keane £19m - Rafa only wanted him IF he was able to get Barry 1st, we then sold him back to Spurs at about a £2m loss.
Aquilani £?? - Yep we'll all agree AA didn't work out, however at this stage under H&G we were reduced to buying off clubs who owed us money i.e Roma and Portsmouth.
Any others????
How some people can consider themselves to be LFC fans and still have a pop at Rafa even now when they see what he inheritied, what he achieved, how he was shafted by H&G and Ayre/Purslow then watched what Hodgson and to a lesser degree Kenny served up is absolutely ****ing bat**** mental.
100% certain that if Rafa had FSG as owners we'd be cemented in the top 4 and challenging for the league.
Mods - I know that it's a Rafa based post in a Dempsey thread so I won't continue with this but it really is staggering how ****ing dumb some of our so called supporters are.Last edited by The Birdman; 31-07-12, 02:12 PM.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

The phrases 'moneyball' and 'sabermetrics' are to discussion of football transfers as 'political correctness gone mad' is to political and moral discussion IMO.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostThis still ain't moneyball mate."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Yeah, the list truly is endless...Originally posted by Lecter View PostAs does Jovanovic who despite being free we paid enormous wages to
Oh and Ryan Babel wasnt a great one either
But you could make the same argument about anyone. Name me two Premier League managers of any longevity who have a clearly better transfer record than Benitez..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

It was posted tongue *almost* in cheek, but why compare Dempsey to the best strikers in the Premiership and when he doesn't really compare, they then start to compare him to three and a half players who have had a below average season?Originally posted by dww View PostThat seems rather skewed way of looking at the total article. I have reservations about Suarez, but no, he's not ****, but I did read an interesting article about his form before, during and after the Suarez affair and that has obviously affected the above too.
I can't really do a reply justice but I'll read the full article this evening when I have a little more time.

As an aside, a Nobel prizewinner has argued that "form" is in the eye of the beholder.Originally posted by Muddled View PostIt was posted tongue *almost* in cheek, but why compare Dempsey to the best strikers in the Premiership and when he doesn't really compare, they then start to compare him to three and a half players who have had a below average season?

I'm a big fan of Rafa and hes probably one of the best managers we've had in terms of activity in the transfer market
He wasnt infallible though but then nobody isBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
