Sigurdsson inflated? £8.5m was it? I'd have considered that a bargain, a player of his quality would probably cost upward of £10-12m easily.

Fee was fine, it's his wage demands that were the issue.

What was he demanding? Downing is on £60k+ we needed to replaced Kuyt and Maxi, okay not positionally but they're both on good whack so even saving 10k must have been acceptable.

Sorry by fees I meant when it came to his wages. Likewise if we got say as little as a 5m bid for Dempsey accepted but he was requesting astronomical wages, I'd like to think Rodgers would show restraint again.

Fair enough, I just think in the case of Sigurdsson you're getting a player worth more for pretty cheap so it would be acceptable to pay him that little bit extra and the deal as a whole would be fair.

I read he wanted 40k? If that's right then we missed a trick, Dempsey would want more IMO and we have inferior players on more already here.

40k? Not what I heard. The way I see the Sigurdsson situation is that he wasn't a huge priority. I think Gerrard still has a few years left in him and Sigurdsson plays this role. I reckon Shelvey has what it takes to step up another level to fill Gerrards boots once he retires. I don't think at this stage Sigurdsson is a neccessary signing. Somebody like Allen or a backup for Lucas however, far more important.

He'd agreed terms with Swansea. Obviously Rodgers knew exactly what those terms were. We matched them, but he demanded double. Rodgers said no. AVB said yes

Stevie has been plagued with injuries for last couple years and he is certainly not getting younger.

I think finding and signing a top AM this summer is as important as it is a backup for Lucas or CM that will serve as a link between Lucas and AM/Gerrard.

That figure seems to stick in my mind when its brought up, not sure if it's something I read or if I'm remembering wrongly.

Lucas has became such a good player I don't think it matters if Allen is here or not, yeah he's better than Spearing but if Lucas goes missing again this November we'll still suffer massively IMO.

I agree with the Gerrard thing though, I just wonder if he wants to play there and not further back like he did for England.

I think he's got a couple years left at least. Once hes retired I hope Shelvey is ready to fill his boots.

I heard we offered about £30k a week (what he'd agreed with Swansea), he then demanded £60,000. We refused. Tottenham paid it.

At least it's not as bad as last year when we paid United £20m for Henderson.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He is probably in the best physical shape in a long time but his recognizable burst of pace is almost gone.

His role and position in the team has already changed and we will see Stevie being pushed back more and more.

We need AM and we need it for this summer, which is why BR wanted to sign Sigurdsson in the first place.
