The played like you expect a team like Greece too.

If they would have got at the Italians I think they would have won, instead they tried to play the masters at their own game, that has significantly better passing and movement. And thats why they lost.

Roy should have had the bollocks to take Rooney and Young off too. Both where dire.
The times they are a changin'.

Its hard to see how Roys tactics are perfect for international tournaments when the evidence we have seen so far is England being outplayed in most games, having very little of the ball and getting knocked out in the 1/4's having not really played anyone of note (its hardly a classic Italian team).
      Modifying post.

The fa are trying to change it and youth football is going through some changes.

Under 11's now dont play 11 a side but play 9 or 7 a side instead to encourage players to have.more touches. But it wont happen overnight. England will be **** for at least ten or twenty years because these changes take time.

Don't play your two centre midfielders five yards apart from each other and refuse at least one of them the option to go to the man with the ball?

Pirlo is a good player that was allowed to orchestrate the play because we didn't press.

Whats the point in doing that when you have a manager who doesn't subscribe to it? We saw similair at LFC - the academy kids were being taught a particular style and Roy had his two banks of four ideal. There's no point.

People in the pub tonight starting to realise just how bad Hodgson's tactics are.

Same people who thought that he was a good manager and wasn't given enough time at LFC.

He's a ****ing fraud. **** tactics, **** team selections and absolutely dour on the sidelines. I think he spent the entire match sitting down looking troubled.

Gutted that the LFC lads have gone out but Johnson and Gerrard were class all tournament. Carroll played well when given the chance and he should've had more minutes.

              Goodbye Hodgson, you old *******.

Im not saying I agree with his tactics but they.do work.

The dutch against the.spanish in the final four years ago adopted a similar style in deep defending and if robben hadnt wasted a load of chances they would be.champions.

Deep lying defensive tactics allied to fast counter attacking do work. Should a supposed top tear nation play that way no. Because its boring and its not the right message to kids.

Asked if his methods were failing, Hodgson said: "Unbelievable. What do you mean by that? In 35 years, how many clubs have I had?

"What do you mean do my methods translate? They have translated from Halmstads to Malmo to Orebro to Neuchatel Xamax to the Swiss national team, so I find the question insulting.

"To suggest that, because I have moved from one club to another, that the methods which have stood me in good stead for 35 years and made me one of the most respected coaches in Europe don't suddenly work is very hard to believe.

So everytime they went against his tactics they got punished. We know roy likes a dep defence because we saw.it an anfield for six months.
No, I do understand it. It is not perfect tournament football is it. Here are three reasons...

                    A) it failed miserably so its not perfect

                    B) can't see any other teams left in the tournament playing like this so they probably have a different idea. I know who I would believe. Them, or you. A clue... It's not you.

                    C) the players were not played to their strengths. Gerrard, Rooney... neither play in those stilted roles for their club. Play Gerrard with parker and Henderson behind. Rooney in the Suarez role. That could work.

Anyway, I'm bored of this. Catch you later somewhere interesting.
                    Oh I don't know.

I started 11 a side from 9/10, we didnt hoof it I dont see how changing the pitch size will help, its the coaching

They'll end up hating him and ridiculing him every bit as much as they did Graham Taylor.

                          Hopefully mate.

It's quite incredible how their opinions have changed so quickly. I feel quite smug and chuffed that us LFC fans are being proved right.

Then I remember him being our manager for six months and feel sick.

Capello would've easily taken us into the semi-final.

That's another thing that makes me laugh. People saying about how we've done well to make the quarters. You can make the quarters by winning one and drawing one group game ffs. It's not as though you have to play six group games and win five to get through!

Were a man light in midfield in a 442 formation. You cannot press in midfield against their players because they will play around you.

Now if we played one striker and an attacking midfield player deeper then you can press but roy didnt do that. england lined up 442.

Again wrong formation against a team that will not give you the ball to build any sort of momentum.

yep most "coaches" are just dads who want to win, I was lucky I had a young lad doing his uefa badges and wanted to develop us, I think some basic training for managers is needed not a pitch change

More touches per hour played. Nine or seven a side on mini or three quarter pitches means that weaker players have to get.on the ball. less players means more touches per player.

The way some of the england players run from the ball its understandable. I completely agree with this change and southgate is at the front of this.

                                Good move imo
