The markings I have seen for most England players are a joke. Other than the first 20 mins it was utter domination from italy, masterminded by Pirlo - who gave about as perfect a performance as you could hope to see.
I thought Glen Johnson was also outstanding last night, and the England defence did play well - but they were creaking. The midfield was basically Gerrard on his own, and there was no out ball at all. Rooney was just horrific. I think Rooney on his day is a really top (top) player. But he tends to disappear in big games against decent centre backs. He has been **** for England for so long.
The England team looked weak on paper and turned out that way.
Pirlo though, was awesome!Modifying post.

i coach at youth level and over the last year or so weve been hearing different strategies and the one that the FA and southgate went for was to stop 11 year olds playing 11 a side football.
a uni in scotland (abertay) did a study showing the amount of touches per kid per format (5 a side, 7 a side, 9 a side and 11 a side).
It showed pretty conclusively that the less players on the pitch the more touches each player gets. imo Thats the way forward combined with better all year round pitches.
Theyre not blameless though because the FA spent nearly a billion on wembley, if you think how many astro pitches for community / amateur club use could have been created nationwide its a bit of a joke.
If the english youth system was better we would produce the best players in the world. I think segura said that if you had two players (one english and one foreign) of equal technical and tactical ability you would always go for the english one because of the increased aggression and physical traits.
The euro campaign is over but lets see what side roy picks for the qualifiers for brazil. im pretty sure we will still see terry and lampard, gerrard, barry and parker in the team. So as carra said the manager of the national team is now at odds with the new footballing philosophy of the nation.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

It was the sort of game if you have that talent in your locker, you would look amazing, Shame, If Aquiliani was playing in that position last night we might have actually recouped a few quid as I reckon he would have also looked a world beaterOriginally posted by Rich View PostThis Pirlo masterclass stuff is way over the top.
He was good last night, because England played into his hands. If we'd stood off Alonso like that he'd have killed us.
I've seen much better performances from much better players._____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

It doesn't matter who is in Starting line up, the England team is ****.Originally posted by el matador View PostFor me I would have gone

No space in between the lines both fullbacks pushed up front four pressing constantly. Most indisciplined player up front and gerrard drops deep to make sure england arent outnumbered. Wide players can cut in allowing full backs to make the width and two central midfield players worj hard to get thw ball back and distribute quickly.
