Maxi is far neater on the ball, he rarely gives it away. I don't see that neatness with Ramirez.

      Younger Maxi wasnt iirc.

I remember watching Maxi and him doing a lot of knocking and running with the ball. He always had that talent for being neat and tidy but he made a lot of mistakes. The Ramirez/Young Maxi comparison is quite a good one IMO.

I personally rate Ramirez quite highly, did before we was 'interested' he's one of the few foreign league players I can say I've actually seen play quite a lot!

        Fair enough.

I haven't seen him a lot but aside from his shooting I'd be a little concerned with his game right now.

the highlight clip of him that i posted earlier makes him look decent, but apart from his free kick he hasnt really shown any of that class.

however... im sure that if you looked hard enough you could probably put together a fantastic compilation of just about any player

I wasn't impressed with him last night.

He can him them, but then so can Adam. Also looked like he played through the middle and not on the wing.

Obviously Uruguay collectively were pretty poor but he doesn't look like a £18m player - or anywhere close to being one.

T.S. so could be bollox if this is The Moose...

Liverpool have submitted a formal offer of £12.6million to Bologna for midfielder Gaston Ramirez, according to reports in Italy.

Ramirez, 21, has been on the Anfield club’s radar for the last year, and talkSPORT revealed last week that the playmaker’s agent had visited London for talks with an unnamed Premier League club.

The 21-year-old has featured for Uruguay at the Olympic Games, and scored a stunning free-kick against United Arab Emirates at Old Trafford last week.

And following Uruguay’s exit from the tournament on Sunday, Ramirez is expected to sort out his future, with Calciomercatonews.com reporting that Liverpool have presented a concrete bid to Bologna.

Bologna are believed to be holding out for a fee closer to £16m, but it is thought that they will accept a fee about £14.2m plus add-ons.

Almost certainly bollocks if it's The Moose reporting it.

I think he could do well for us, I really do. He is able to conjure up something out of nothing and so often we lack have lacked moments of inspiration in tight matches. I would be happy for us to get him at that price.

I expect I am in a minority here.

he didnt look all that to me.

a couple of things were really interesting. Firstly his work rate which was pretty good as he was back defending at most of team GB's counters. Which is a good sign and secondly he never hid from the ball.

On the flip side he didnt do a right lot with it and he has a more languid style rather than a someone who's busier. More ozil than say di maria. The other thing was that his final ball was pretty poor most of the time and his decision making isnt there at all.

he;s only young so it could be worked on but anything over 8m is overpriced.

The thing is I believe he has that spark to make the difference. That cracking effort against the bar at the end showed that. And his dead ball delivery is of a high quality.

I agree with that, I think the few times I've seen him I've just caught him on off days because he has something. He shows glimpses of quality and what some people say he has games when it all comes together, worth a punt at his age.

                              glimpses of quality...

not how we should be selecting players that need to be proven quality
