    Player Wage Structure

OK, not to post a stupid question, but this is a sports translation issue for me in the USA...

In football, players wages are listed as "per week". How is an annual wage bill finally calculated? Is the player's per week multiplied by 52? Do internationals get paid while away on duty? Summer vacation do you still make the same wage?

I guess what I am saying is why not just say "the player is making £3 million a year" or "they've signed a four year contract worth £12 million"?

Does the difference come from a working tradition where the impression is that footballers are just like everyone else who works piecemeal on a weekly wag? I don't think of my own contracts as a per week contract, I say you're paying me $X a year.

It makes it hard for me to understand the full wage load and I don't know the full calendar of how players are paid. Maybe I am just a product of my environment; American sports are obsessed with rules about setting wage caps, revenue sharing, contract details, etc, so I find it strange that football wage structures are so hard to get a handle on.

Thoughts appreciated... This is not an indictment of the system and tradition, just trying to understand...

It's probably because weekly pay used to be the norm in the UK and it's just stuck.

I'd love to see Madrids wage structure over the last decade, bet it's a mind boggling read.

Sorry BRed the above is sort of off topic. I'll stop now as i know your thread is more specific than random foreign clubs wages.

On the subject of US sports, I feel there should be a wage cap like there is in US sport, otherwise it will just become he who has most money wins...

                OK, so yes, the tradition.

Is it £60K/wk x 52 to get the full salary or are there weeks of unpaid?

                            £82k per month net pay.

You can't imagine that sort of wedge.

Always makes me laugh how he has to pay 65 bones for his meals.
