Yeah. He got a nice fat signing on fee, huge wages and a nice pay off for doing nothing in particular. No issue with his money until he starts coming out with crap like:

    Liverpool was my only choice
I wouldn't class them as a great club (sic)
I never felt a connection there

The fact he never played, never wanted to play and never wanted to move unless he got his money just shows what a **** he is.

Or it shows that he's just another footballer / human being.

We've all been in positions where we just turn up to work for the money. A lot of people have had their contracts terminated through redundancy or whatever. It really isn't that much different. I have no issue with that. The issue is recruiting the right people in the first place.
      Oh I don't know.

When we signed Stewart Downing, he was just crowned Player of the Year at Villa. He's coming good now but he was ****e when he started. Awards at previous clubs don't really mean **** all when you move to a new club, Suarez aside obviously. Dutch Footballer of the Year, Copa América Player of the Tournament, Eredivisie Golden Boot, Ajax Player of the Year two years running, Ajax Top Goalscorer two years running and KNVB Cup Top Goalscorer speak for itself.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't built by the apprentice either.

Agree in general. But for normal folk it's different. We don't usually have employers queing up for us wanting to pay us millions just to go to them. I turn up to work for the money definitely. But knowing that and knowing that they pay me well without doing much for it, I'd show a bit of class if I ever left.

Footballers are different. They operate under different circumstances. I think his quotes are pretty embarassing and explain a lot as to why he was utter garbage for us. It makes me think he just wasn't fussed. Add on to that they money he took off us, it's highly annoying

Definitely understood why we signed him now. No brainer.

We are. He got severance pay but not in one go.

I disagree about the normal folk / footballers comparison.

In terms of his comments, I agree that they lack class, but then I really don't care one iota what he or any footballer thinks about pretty much anything.
                Oh I don't know.

                  What?

Since when did severance pay get paid in instalments? If he was on the payroll of two different clubs at the same time, that would represent a massive conflict of interests, not to mention breaking all sorts of rules.
                  Oh I don't know.

Because, once again, West Ham have signed a player they can't afford to pay. Some sort of agreement in place that he gets it paid monthly/weekly/whatever to top up what West Ham are giving him. Same thing happened when we sacked off Aquilani to Fiorentina.

Yeah, not a chance he's getting millions of pounds in one go. Aquilani is getting 2.5m a year for 2 years off us according to the Italian press, Jovanovic got 2m euros spread over 2 years aswell according to the Belgian press at the time.

We should just refuse to pay him the balance then and take him to the cleaners for blatantly not trying for the last how many years.

"He is believed to have negotiated a settlement with Liverpool on his £100,000-a-week deal, which still has 18 months to run, which allows West Ham to pay the attacking midfielder a salary more in keeping with their wage structure."
"According to Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle, the Italian club have today completed the signing of midfielder Alberto Aquilani for a fee of approximately £5.5M. However, in order to meet Aquilani's wage demands, Liverpool will pay a portion of the player's salary for his first two seasons at Fiorentina."

Basically, the clubs they sign for can't afford their full wages, so the severances are split into weekly/monthly payments to top up their wages so they can get their requested salary and make the move.

That first para doesn't mention anything about staggered payments so it's inconclusive imo.

The second would appear to more conclusive, however.

You'd be surprised how often it happens to be honest. Rarely does a multimillion pound payoff get paid in one go.
