Joe Allen today told Liverpoolfc.com of his delight after being named the Standard Chartered Player of the Month for August.

The summer signing received 38 per cent of the votes in our online poll to see off 17-year-old Raheem Sterling (26 per cent) and Luis Suarez (18 per cent).

He was presented with a trophy and bottle of champagne at Melwood by manager Brendan Rodgers.


"It's very flattering," Allen told the official website. "I've been welcomed here with open arms and settled really well into the dressing room and the city. Obviously this is a good way to start my career here.

"The thing I'm most pleased about is the way that I've gelled with my teammates.

"We seemed to be on the same wavelength straight away, which is great because as a new player coming into the team you worry that might take time and it might take time for me to find my feet.

"Luckily, things have gone well for me personally and I'm really enjoying being part of this football team."

It's so refreshing that a big transfer has made such a big and immediate impact. Apart from Luis Suarez - and he still has a lot to prove as a goalscorer in my opinion - you have to go back 5 years to Fernando Torres for the last big money success. Since then a succession of expensive players have come (and many already gone) without making much of an impact, e.g. Keane, Aquilani, Henderson, Downing and Carroll who between them cost over £100m...

I knew he was never a £15m player before we signed him...he was/is worth much more. Can't believe the likes of 'respected' posters like Lector, Mostar and Saj were even questioning his signing - let alone ready to slit their wrists.

I was unsure of his signing myself, but it's fantastic to be proven so categorically incorrect...I wish it happened more often!

Its just, he has this odd way of 'spreading' his face across when a picture is taken, if you know what I mean.
He's almost never looking at the camera , when its taking of picture of him straight on.
Even that photo has an almost 'shopped' look to it

Its not one for his wall at home at any rate
