Joe Allen played pressing football under Rodgers at Swansea. All of the Liverpool players played pressing football under Rodgers especially well during the season when the team finished second. Allen and Henderson were the best at this from central midfield.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostThe thing is, Wales play a very possession-based game. Last season under Klopp, we were focused on a high-pressing game, which wasn't even fully implemented. However, we were never as direct as I suspect Klopp wants us to be. This is where Allen will ultimately fall short in his plans.
I hope Allen stays as I think he's a very smart player but if he goes it will be because he wants to play more minutes than klopp can give him imo.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

What I'm saying is that the next phase, is to be more direct, and Allen is more of a possession-based player, which is probably why Klopp is looking to sell.

Why? Im sure he can hit a longer ball, its just he is used to playing shorter passes. Im more worried about his stature tbh (unless you are thinking Joe Allen is the target for the longer ball). Its not like he provides anything unique, anyway. I think he is a good squaddie, and hopefully Henderson will improve next season too. We just need a replacement for Lucas who can anchor the side.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostThe thing is, Wales play a very possession-based game. A possession-based game is slower, and relies on probing passes, and carving openings.
Being direct isn't necessarily about making a longer pass, but about being quick, and able to move the ball from defence to attack as quickly as possible. It's also about making driving runs to move the team up the pitch.
There is a reason Klopp called it 'heavy metal', compared to a silent song, an orchestra, again, as Klopp called it.
