its was on FR, so french I assume. I saw FR but it was on a key that had a microphone on, so hadn't connected the two.

A fact which only serves to highlight Huey's bravery as a songwriter. Not content with merely issuing mental challenges to the masses on the nature of being hip, being square and being hip to be square he chose an archaic adjective which had itself hadn't been considered hip since a mob of punks chased the last of the hipsters out of town.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that Huey's intention wasn't to provide the definitive judgement on whether it's possible to be both hip and square simultaneously (despite the name 'It's Hip to be Square' implying that he and the News knew that you could be hip, be square and do so in tandem) but he looked to inspire us to question everything we'd ever known about being hip and square. It's a gauntlet thrown down to the convention of modern language. He's calling out Shakespeare, Dickens, Roth and the mucky pup who has recently gained worldwide acclaim for her three books of smut. The fact that almost 30 years later a group of people on a Liverpool fans forum can't unravel the mystery he has put before us would indicate that he's been successful.
