Sahin will link play better and as such we'll create more & better chances. That's where the goals will come from.

Stupendous signing right out the top drawer. I'd still like to see a top goalscorer sign, but even if we had one I'd be wanting another signing somewhere else.

If we do flog Carroll though and sign someone like Daniel Sturridge or Klass-Jan Huntelaar, I'll be fooking delighted
    Forwards.......

As is, I agree with whoever posted somewhere here that we'll win a fair few games 1-0 unless we get another goal scorer. If we get someone like Huntelar & he produces then just maybe top 4 could be on.

        I'd still say it's overoptimistic.

Who called people idiots for thinking it was possible?
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Ohhh, your asking something now, who was it that first said it...

hmmmm, was it MrM ? Could have been.

Obviously he was talking before we made these signings.

80% of that wage by all accounts....more than Arsenal, and with any loan fee would bring the cost up to some of the figures being mentioned.
Good signing though, even if its just for the season, and while not enough to give us a realistic chance of top 4 or 5, it certainly improves the squad.

Just hope he hits the ground running, and his commitment is in it.

Agreed.....its in his interests to show Real that he is a 'Real' player if you know what I mean, but there's no guarantees that he'll fit in and adapt (as with all signings, especially loan ones).
If he works out, you never know what'll happen down the line.

I'd be very surprised if he said that rather than about people expecting top4.

Really? If MrM said something along those lines, I can't help thinking he's been misinterpreted, or taken out of context. It seems unlike him.

It looks to me like there are seven teams at least going for the top four. Man City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all better than us for one reason or another. Arsenal looked weak last season but still finished third. Tottenham seem to be spending a lot and Newcastle haven't lost anyone important as far as I've noticed.

I think the odds are very much against only three teams finishing ahead of us.

Hmmm, yeah I suppose 'considered the notion we'd make top 4' and 'expecting top 4' are two different things really.

He maybe did say it about people 'expecting' top 4, my wording in my original post was misleading.

So, Idiots for 'expecting' Top 4 it is then.

My feeling is that at heart he is a pretty contolling/defensive manager. Perhaps we'll have to have a season where we win a lot of games 1-0 but we could still challenge.
striker is perhaps a worry but bringing Sahin in might offer more chances and seeing Gerrard playing further up the pitch.
