Ronaldo blasts Sir Alex Ferguson over ‘fat’ jibes.
Brazilian legend Ronaldo has hit back at Sir Alex Ferguson’s ‘disrespectful’ comments, after the Manchester United boss branded him ‘the fat one’ when trying to distinguish the retired striker from his namesake Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid’s last visit to Old Trafford saw Brazilian Ronaldo at his devastating best, as he bagged a hat-trick in a 6-5 aggregate win for the Spaniards.
Discussing the match and Cristiano Ronaldo, prior to last night’s 2-1 reverse, Fergie said: ‘The older one, the fatter one, peaked as a centre forward at that time.’
But the former Real, Barcelona, Inter and AC Milan goal-machine was less than impressed with the Scot’s comments, and reminded the Red Devils boss that despite his podgy appearance in the latter parts of his career, he still deserves respect for what he achieved in his prime.
‘He did not see me after One Measure,’ Ronaldo said, referencing a weight-loss reality TV programme he appeared on.
‘I have nothing to add on my old physical appearance. I regret how disrespectful he was when he referred to me, it was not something that befits a ‘Sir’.
‘I’m proud of what I achieved in football; I was the best in the world.’
