    Falcao

Atletico Madrid have hinted that they could be tempted into selling Radamel Falcao

By Lucas Brown. Last Updated: October 9, 2012 8:12pm

Atletico Madrid will not part with Radamel Falcao in January, but have hinted that they could be persuaded to cash-in on the highly-rated striker next summer.

The Colombia international is among the most sought-after talents in European football, with a prolific strike rate drawing attention from the continent's top clubs.

Chelsea and Manchester City are believed to be heading the queue for his signature, with the Premier League pair blessed with the financial backing required to put a deal in place.

Atletico would be reluctant sellers, but appreciate that offloading their prized asset to anyone willing to match his €60million (£48.3m) buy-out clause would help to ease the financial strain on the club.

"€60 million for Falcao would solve all the economic problems at Atletico," general manager Gil Marin told COPE Radio.

"I can say for sure, though, that he will stay with us until the end of the season. Not only will he stay, but so will all the players that the coach wants to stay.

"We will fight to perform a miracle which is what we are doing with what we have available.

"In Europe there are 50 clubs with more income than we have. If we were to sell Falcao for €60 million then that would cover our debts."

Real Madrid are also said to be keen on raiding their cross-city neighbours for Falcao's services, but Marin doubts such a switch would be made.

"If Atletico do not qualify for the Champions League or cannot afford to meet his wage demands then I do not think that Real Madrid could afford him either," he continued.

"We have to do impossible things and take risks so that the fans can have the team that they want. It is difficult to maintain."

PSG are allegedly the team that wants to sign him in the Jan window according to Balague. Fee bandied about is that 60 mill release clause mark.

Weren't we supposed to have been trying to sign him when Rafa was in charge? For around a tenth of his value now?

Quality player, sadly won't see him in the red of Liverpool unless FSG unearth oil under Fenway Park.

We were linked with Falcao before he signed for Porto. The price rumoured then was £4m

                    Correct.
Can't we give them the mighty Andy Carroll plus 15 million pounds?!

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini makes move for Atlético Madrid's Colombian striker Radomel Falcao

Roberto Mancini is understood to have met with representatives of Radomel Falcao to persuade the £45 million striker to join Manchester City.

The City manager flew to Madrid to speak to Jorge Mendes. Falcao, the 26-year-old Colombian, is expected to leave Atlético Madrid at the end of this season. More than one meeting has taken place, which suggests City are pushing hard to outmanoeuvre Chelsea and Real Madrid.

It appears that Mancini is driving the deal and he has also revived his interest in Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

Falcao wants a $6 million (£5 million) salary after tax, which means around double that in gross terms, so the full cost would be around £85 million.

Mendes also represents Real coach Jose Mourinho, which has made that club favourite to sign the striker, while he has also kept strong links with Chelsea. However, Chelsea could only acquire Falcao should they sell Fernando Torres and may concentrate on signing younger attacking players such as Bayer Leverkusen’s André Schürrle.

City would also have to sell if Falcao was signed with the futures of Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko most in doubt.
