Bloody Rodgers, never gives the kids a chance!

    Comment

This kid could've been good enough, but he hasn't been used enough to progress & when a talented kid hangs around to long without getting games, they go backwards.

Utterly bizarre he wasn't named in the Europa squad. I can only guess Rodgers told him he should move on, but Tex wanted to stay & fight for an opportunity. Borini mark 2.
      Forwards.......

        Damn straight.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

63 times he played a ball that could/should have resulted in a shot at goal last season, voted the teams young player of the year (for what that's worth!), the supporters seemed to like what he did.

I live in Brighton, or near it. I asked my kitchen fitter about him but he doesn't watch football

He's more of a rugby fan I think. Ex RAF
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Presumably he's a whiz with a plane in his hands.

I have a feeling that he'd be playing if he was English.

If he was a scouser he'd be in that Europa squad that is for sure. Tbh, I like the team having a local identity so I get that part. My issue with Joao is that I think he's good enough to at least be in that squad. He's not an average player, he has genuine class & ability.

A more suspicious mind would suggest Rodgers has played the local lads to try and win over the local support.

I agree if he were a scouser he would be in the squad but not for the reason the suspicious mind you mention might suggest.

The reason he isn't in the Europa League squad is that similar to the CL you have to include 8 association trained players 4 of whom are locally trained. If you look at our squad we have alot of players who would count as association trained (but not locally trained): Clyne, Milner, Henderson, Lallana, Allen, Ings and Gomez. In terms of locally trained players they have to have been at the club for 3 years before the age of 21, (or still be under 21 and have been at the club for 2 years). Teixeira has only been at the club for 2.5 years and is already 22 so would never qualify as a locally trained player. Presumably the locally trained players in the Europa League squad are Ibe, Rossiter, Chirivella and Brannagan as according to UEFA website they are the only players that I imagine could be eligible for those positions.

As an aside in the days where we had locally trained players who were first team regulars (Gerrard, Carragher, Sterling etc) the U21 players wouldn't have needed to be listed in the main squad but would still have been eligible for the B-list as they are under 21 and have been at the club for 2 years. At the moment the youngsters have to be used to fill the locally trained places in the squad.

In light of this the only way to get Teixeira in the squad would be to leave a senior player out and according to this seasons rules you can't change the squad at any point after 1st Sept, so if someone was missing out they would be missing out for the whole season, not just the early rounds. If he were able to qualify as locally trained presumably be in the squad and one of Chirivella or Brannagan would have been B-list players.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Good point well made. I do think he should be given a shot in th league cup though. He needs chances.

He should have played in the League cup against Carlisle

For me I would have him on the bench in the league too. Maybe at the expense of someone like kolo Toure - when we already have Gomez there it might make sense...

Remember Rodgers first season when he played Suso because his other options were downing and maybe joe cole??? I think if we didn't spend loads of money on players that didn't actually make us a better team, then we'd have a brilliant player in teixeria by now

Is he another one of these young player that Rodgers is an expert at developing?

A lot can be thrown at Rodgers but not giving youth a chance certainly isn't one of them.

Perhaps he's just not up to it, there's another young superstar that left us to go to Milan that's played 4 games since he joined in Jan.
