Nah, it's due to "risk" because 6 months of good form made Carroll less of a risk apparently.Originally posted by Helios Creed View Postmaybe the new owners preferred to buy British thinking it would go down better with the fans?
We were in for Llorente at the same time, negotiating for both but decided to plump for Carroll. That's a horrendous decision every single day of the week.
We were also looking at Gomez on loan and if we'd waved the cash at Bayern they would have sold him because at the time he wasn't flavour of the month.

Problem is the new owners don't really know **** and trusted and were guided by Commolli and Kenny. Unfortunately they don't know **** either so it was the blind leading the blind.Originally posted by Helios Creed View Postmaybe the new owners preferred to buy British thinking it would go down better with the fans?
I honestly think that given the transfer disasters over the past few years it is actually ridiculous not to have brought in an experienced figurehead like Van Gaal as a DoF. If BR did not want to work with a DoF we should have got someone who would. The risks we are taking with vast sums of money justify it."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Exactly... £4million for Ince is a steal.... Lets hope totenham isnt going to steal him from us...Originally posted by Alex View PostYou are right I suppose. I think people are more annoyed that we are spending £4million to get him back. Then again, I think we need to look at it as we are signing 'Tom Ince - Blackpool player' rather than 'Tom Ince - Liverpool youth player who never signed for us'
If its looked at like that, I think we are getting an alright deal. £4million for a decent looking U21 player. If this was Man Utd, Ferguson would be getting lauded for picking up a good prospect ala Evans, Jones or Cleverly.BR : "Liverpool isnt just a Football club, Its a way of Life."

Louis Van Gaal was NEVER interested in a DoF role - he spoke to us about becoming manager but FSG wanted a younger man so negotiations stopped.Originally posted by Tee View PostProblem is the new owners don't really know **** and trusted and were guided by Commolli and Kenny. We never agreed a fee for Llorente (they kept saying he wasnt for sale), we managed to agree one for CarrollOriginally posted by Captain Stu View PostNah, it's due to "risk" because 6 months of good form made Carroll less of a risk apparently.

So to suggest we plumped for Carroll over Llorente isnt correct
That said there is no comparison between them as to quality of player Llorente is a much better player and I'd go for him time and time again if it was an actual choice between him & CarrollBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. We were told he wasnt for saleOriginally posted by Leyton388 View PostIIRC We offered £30m for him but it was knocked back and we didn't go back with a better offer and offered £35m for carroll instead.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. Never said we agreed a fee - we were in for him and we never offered anywhere near £30M. We were offering around £15-18M or something but had we offered more - every player has a price.Originally posted by Lecter View PostWe never agreed a fee for Llorente (they kept saying he wasnt for sale), we managed to agree one for Carroll

Those reports were widespread and Llorente spoke about it himself.
