Most of us would probably have agreed with the Carroll transfer if, like Ince, he would have cost £5mOriginally posted by Gibbo View PostWe signed Carroll on the back of a decent Championship season a good half a PL season.
Downing and Henderson had more PL experience, and had been consistentish for a while.Vive la France

By all accounts we did. Llorente was our 1st option but we got told no chance.Originally posted by Leyton388 View Post£5m for Carroll or £8m tops would have been ok but **** me Newcastle saw us coming. That money from the Torres deal should have went on Llorente. If we'd have offered £35 or £40m for him Bilbao would have bitten our hand off IMO.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Brilliant thinking there...Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostIIRC We offered £30m for him but it was knocked back and we didn't go back with a better offer and offered £35m for carroll instead.Originally posted by fah-qDidn't someone once see Philip Schofield ****ting into a crisp packet?

I think in the light of Carroll being largely meh for so long, people don't remember how good he was for Newcastle. He was a beast, and with goals against us and arsenal, the big boys were likely to make a move for him. His true value at that stage due to his age and nationality would have likely been £10-15m. In my opinion. Which doesn't count for much, even in my house.
