I know Tom Ince seems to be in demand, is apparently well thought of, strong links with us, but if money is in short supply, should we be spending up to 6mill of it on such a player, will he improve us now ?
Does he have any real pace ? Just seems a tad sluggish when i've taken time to watch him of late, although tbf the pitches were in a bit of state and boggy, so that won't help.
We won't pay that amount as we are entitled to 30% of resale value. £4-4.5m seems about right.
LIVERPOOL FC are closing in on a £4million deal to bring Blackpool’s Tom Ince back to Anfield.
The Reds are in negotiations with the Seasiders and hope the prolific 20-year-old winger will become their first signing of the January transfer window.
Ince, who left LFC just 16 months ago for a compensation fee of £250,000, has already plundered 13 goals in the Championship so far this season.
Blackpool value Ince at around £6million but Liverpool would be able to get a significant discount as they secured a 35% sell-on clause.
Managing director Ian Ayre has also held talks with Chelsea over a potential £12million swoop for striker Daniel Sturridge. However, the ECHO understands that the Ince transfer is closer to being finalised.
OK, if he was earning 50K per week with us in the time that he was at Blackpool, he would have earned roughly £4m in that time.
If you look at it that way, he has gone out and got a lot more experience for the price of not a massive amount more than we would have been paying him anyway. Obviously there are agency fees and whatnot on top too which I haven't taken into account. But it's not a massive 'loss' to regain the player that was with us previously.
The other way of looking at it is, that we might not be so flush with cash right now, so is spending £4m on a back up midfielder the best use of limited resources?
Suarez, Sturridge, Borini, Ince and Sterling as our attacking threat, with very little (in terms of goals) behind them. Arn's getting his team of midgets.
Anyone know what wages he was asking for when he left?
This is a misconception, a total misconception. He was not demanding more money at all. He wanted to play first team games and he took great advice from his dad and most likely took a pay cut to join Blackpool.
I am very excited about his signing if it happens. He was fantastic for our reserves and it was obvious he was going to make it. One thing I will also say is, he is a very accurate crosser of the ball.

If we could add Walcot to that, I think that would be brilliant in terms of attacking options.

I'd be extremely happy with Walcott, but I've convinced myself it's a non-starter; We've been used by his agents to secure his bumper pay-rise. But I digress. Yes, it would create options towards the top end of our team, but it still doesn't address our alarming lack of goal threat from our entire midfield.

Is that right?
Why does he want to come back then? Is he really gonna be a regular this season?

Well he hasn't said he wants to come back but I doubt he would say no. And if Rodgers goes out to of his way to sign him, I'm sure he see's him as a first team contender. Time will tell if he is good enough for the premiership as he will be playing in it sooner rather than later.
