We should tell them to stick it and move on. Ince will not sign an extension and he is only young so we could get him for free in 18 months time anyway or for a reduced value. £8.5m is twice as much as he is worth.

To be fair to him, he is trying to get as much money as possible for his club ...whether it be 8.5 million or less as the truth probably will be . Paying anything over 4 million IMO is too much for a player only proven in the championship IMO.
He's not really in a position of power though, I can't believe we want him that much that we'd pay this valuation for him, he could be left with a player that is both disillusioned with being there and no other sides paying what he wants.

For a man not in a position of power he is playing hardball (and that's disregarding above article).

They want their money, if other clubs come into the mix that is exactly what they want. Blackpool are inevitably dragging this out and biding their time and you can't blame them for looking out for their best interests. I suppose we are only going on what we hear but for me was never going to be cut and dry.

I agree if the fee is that high, i would be shocked if we want him that much

I think Sissoko for £2/3m is an absolute steal although I would personally prefer M'Vila even with the recent problems. I can't believe him & Tom Ince are being quoted at roughly the same price, even with the 'English tax '.

A strong-tackling midfielder would mean the rest of the mids could push up 10yards and press the opposition more.

Different positions though mate. Rodgers clearly wants wingers in the side as he doesn't seem to fully trust the ones he does have. I agree about the point about pushing the midfielders 10 yards further up if we got a defensive midfielder, but at the moment, we're desperate for wide players.

Anyone else available for £6million and a young age?

Playing hardball and being in a real position of power are two different things, I expect us not to sign him due to Oyston not beings willing to budge which is fair enough but we either get him for the right value for us or we'll walk IMO.

It was obvious this was going to be a mexican stand-off with neither party prepared to back down on the other's valuation. I think he'll stay at Blackpool at least until the end of the season. After that, who knows...

Thats a fair point mate. I was just thinking about us needing a bit of steel in the middle and comparing the value of a championship player like Ince to quality proven players like M'Vila or Sissoko.

Of course but IMO they have an asset that others want... they are 9 points of the play offs keeping Ince is still a good thing for them.... so they are in no rush to sell.

Sure we'll see how it plays out. Personally i won't lose any sleep if we don't sign Ince. Just hope that we have other good targets in place.

The article is rubbish purely on the basis that if he did go for £8.5m then we'd get £2.975m and with Ince's £0.6m that would leave them 'clearing' £4.925m - way under the reported £6m.

If they *really* want to clear £6m then he has to sell for over £10m which is a ridiculous valuation and not mentioned once in the article

I was just working that out too. We can't lose on this one. Even if they do get someone else to pay £8m for him (I doubt they will!) then we pocket £3m of it, so they'd only get £5m. Surely they've worked this out for themselves?

They've seen us pay £8m for Adam, £19m for Downing, £13m for Henderson & £10m for Borini so I guess they're thinking we're somewhat likely to pay over the odds
