every signing is a risk irrespective of their age and experience. There's no guarantees about what player will work out and which won't.

I'd be delighted with a trio of Butland, Sturridge and Ince as our signings this January.

They are trying to sell him. Don't think we'll sign him. He's not good enough anyway. Very poor with his feet.
          Are we winning?

Will help us with a respectable mid table finish.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

I reckon we'll sign him and then loan him straight to a Premier League team and probably give Reina 1-2 more years. (In the summer window that is).

I think it's Birmingham looking to instigate a bidding war. They're clearly desperate for cash and are whoring their players out in the public eye with the hope of getting top dollar for them.

However, if there is a shred of interest from ourselves, I'm not against it; I'd rather pay £6m for Butland and have a goalkeeper that could be our number one for a decade than pay, errm ... top dollar for a short-term fix on more than one occasion.

Reina continues between the sticks, Butland is ours on the cheap and he continues to learn his trade on loan and from Reina himself. Then, at 24/25 hopefully he's ready to take on the number one spot. Replacing a goalie isn't soemthing that can be done immediately - I mean, look at United - it's something that needs to be done over time.

He'd be a good long term signing for us IMO but if we brought him in as a sacrifice to other areas (specifically the attacking 3rd) it would at present be a bad move as we can deal with having Pepe in the side even with his long term dip in form.

FWIW I think the approach FSG are taking is the right one, it's not going to be a quick fix but getting a strong young(ish) side in place will bear fruit in the medium to long term.

They spent years trying to replace Schmichael.

Like we spent years trying to replace Grobelaar and didn't succeed until Reina joined.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I didn't forget anyone. Westerveld's kicking was an improvement over the haplessness of his immediate predecessors but he wasn't all that great a keeper otherwise. Dudek replaced Grobelaar in terms of handling errors and eccentricity but made some terrible basic mistakes that tend to be forgotten about thanks to a lucky/incredible double save from some Ukrainian bloke in some match sometime.
