People are getting their knickers in a twist based on **** all knowledge and a whole load of speculation and assumption. It's quite hysterical.

The only logic to this is if it is designed to set off a set of circumstances that will increase our budget for other transfers NET.

ie buy Butland for 6m and sell Reina for 10 million, net profit and budget increased to address other areas more needy in the squad.

Its not something I'd do though cos he's unproven and I'm not convinced by Brad Jones either.

Id rather we just spend what we have on proven players good enough for the 1st team right now

We will have - absolute max - £15-20M to spend in January, and that's generous, so when you factor in £6-8M for a keeper we maybe don't need plus his wages then that's a lot of that money gone leaving us **** all left to sign the forwards we're screaming out for.

When was the last time any of the teams around us spent £11m on a squad player?
I think you are using the wrong comparrison. league position does not determie budget. We have much higher revenue that the teams you have listed as our competition. On the pitch, sure, but that is not relevant.

The fascination over Butland is due to his shot stopping. Thing is he is hopeless with his feet and I would much prefer a keeper who can start off attacks by playing as a sweeper like Reina does. We've seen him throughout his Liverpool career (especially under Rafa) sweep behind a high defensive line and many of our goals came from him doing just that. Reina for me has the lot, shot stopper, organiser, controls his area etc. I just don't think Rodgers tactics are helping him.

He's not been that keeper for 2 and a half years though. How long do we give it? Half a decade?

You don't know that at all. I suspect things are a little more sophisticated than that. e.g if we buy a keeper now so we don't need to next year, I think the owners might consider the saving next year in what they make available now.

I DO! BRENDAN TOLD ME LAST NIGHT IN BED!!!

                    ... oops.

That may be the case... and that would make sense... but we don't *need* a goalkeeper as much as we need goalscorers right now. I don't dispute the logic of signing Butland to provide competition for Reina but not in January when our limited spending is going to be limited even further.

Rodgers has gone on record as saying we don't have a lot of money to play with so spunking £6m on a position that's not needed right now is silly imo. As Shaggy said if we buy Butland, Rodgers would've spent the best part of £11m on players that are not priorities. Why not use the money to strengthen postions that really need addressing? I hope he doesn't complain at the end of the window if he misses out on a target by a few million. He'll only have himself to blame.

The biggest limiting factor in Jan will be finding players who will improve us that will actually come to us in Jan.

Rodgers said himself the other day that we need to strengthen the attacking department - all across the line - and left back.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The issue is does Rodgers want us to play that way? Because Reina isn't playing that role at the moment.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Equally though you don't know that either. It's all speculation until 1st Feb when the window closes.
