This would be a massive signing for us, not just for the footballing reasons but to show we can attract top names in football still and we're serious for getting back to where we believe we should be, you'd think other players out there would take note of this kind of signing.

No doubt he's going to United or Spurs now

What were we supposed to be paying Sahin? 90k? I guess we would go to that but still a massive drop from his current wage.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers faces wait to see if £6m move for Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder is possible

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is waiting to see if Dutch international Wesley Sneijder is prepared to accept a multi-million wage cut before deciding if a £6 million Anfield move is feasible.

        By Chris Bascombe11:00PM GMT 17 Jan 2013

Sneijder is on the brink of joining Turkish side Galatasaray, who are prepared to offer a package closer to his current net salary of £6.5 million a year. That is well beyond what the Merseyside club can afford.

The player’s representatives have alerted Rodgers that Sneijder would favour a move to England, but there are numerous obstacles in the way of an Anfield deal.

It is not only the Sneijder’s salary that is an issue, but also his age. At 28, the Dutchman would represent somewhat of a test case given the club’s current transfer policy targeting younger talent.

Although Liverpool insist this policy is not ‘set in stone’ the financial package involved in recruiting Sneijder would still make him one of the club’s top earners.

Rodgers would be thrilled if a deal for the Dutchman could be arranged, but the problem for Liverpool is if Sneijder was prepared to accept a smaller wage, the competition for his signature from Premier League admirers would be even more intense.

Sneijder has suggested sporting rather than financial concerns are his main focus, offering a slight glimmer of hope.

“It’s not a question of money,” Sneijder said. “Look, like all of the players who have to decide what to do and where to go before Jan 31, I have that time. I’m not in a rush and I won’t be rushed.”

Sneijder joined Inter Milan in 2009 and helped them to the Italian League, Cup and Champions League treble in 2010.

Gerrard, Sneijder and Allen. Yes ****ing please.

Consider how the experience of another CL winner in the team would improve players like Henderson, Allen and others.

It's a huge sign of ambition and can be enough to entice other big names to help us push for CL.

Liverpool is a huge brand in global football and for players of the right mentality, to be the ones that got us back to Europe's elite is a great incentive in itself.

We're saying we'll be in for him if he drops his net pay by a third according to one of those articles.

That would mean we'd be paying him around £125k per week, coincidentally. That's what Gerrard's on isn't it?

Liverpool want Inter star Sneijder... as long as Dutchman will accept pay cut

              By Dominic King

Liverpool will enter the race for Wesley Sneijder if the Holland international is prepared to drop his salary demands.

Though Sneijder does not fit the profile that Liverpool’s owners FSG target – he is too old at 28 and his salary of £6m a year is too expensive – manager Brendan Rodgers is an admirer.

Galatasary are the only club to make the Inter Milan outcast a firm offer but they want an answer from him by tomorrow over his plans.

Sneijder has doubts about moving to Turkey and would prefer his next move to be closer to Holland, for family reasons.

Inter would be prepared to let him leave for £6.2million but any move to Anfield, though, would hinge on whether Sneijder would be prepared to take a huge cut in his salary.

Sneijder is confident he will no longer be at Inter come the end of the month.

'Look, all the players in this market period must decide what to do and where to go by January 31, and I will too,' he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

'I’m not in a rush and I won’t be rushed.

'After everything I have done I don’t want to feel like this, almost forced to choose in a short time on a major step in my life.'

Sneijder was by released for the Serie A winter break two games ahead of the rest of the Inter squad and has not featured for the first team since September after rejecting a proposed two million euro pay cut.

Both club and player are eager to bring the uncomfortable stand-off to an end, but Sneijder is adamant his next move will not be driven by the size of the salary on offer, saying: 'No, it is not a question of money.'

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates is attracting interest from Boca Juniors, as well as West Brom - who want him on loan.

The way the press have suddenly run with this smells fishy to me. Almost like the club drumming up publicity

Sadly I think he will end up at Man Utd with RVP

edit: Do RVP and Wes Sneijder hate each other? I vaguely remember something about them not getting on?

Have we turned into Everton? Is Sneijder our 'Riquelme'?

Can we just get excited please? Too much analysis and negativity is making supporting Liverpool less fun each year.

Could it be the other way round whereby Sneijder is using the good name of LFC to flush out interest from the other English big guns? he obviously doesn't want to go play for Gala.
                          We come not to play.

                            Was thinking the same.

Yeah, he contacted the Liverpool Echo earlier and asked them to run a story.
