Gary Neville has rejected claims he was asked to "nail" David de Gea following Manchester United's Premier League draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Neville, a Sky Sports analyst, was typically forthright in his assessment of De Gea's weak punch, which led to Clint Dempsey's injury-time equaliser and indicated Alex Ferguson would share the same displeasure so obvious in the body language of his players.

However, it was then suggested by former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys that Neville had been asked to highlight De Gea's flaws, although he did not say who by. Keys said of Neville: "I think he was sent out with an agenda. I don't think Gary would have done that had he not been told: 'Listen, finger him.'"

Neville's response was straight to the point. "This is not interesting, it's wrong," he said. "I never have and never will take instructions off anybody to say anything!" he tweeted. Neville subsequently removed the tweet, even though the response was understandable given no one has questioned his objectivity before.

In addition, the England assistant coach had already underlined how highly he rates De Gea in another Twitter posting.

"For the record I think De Gea can be a great GK. He is young in an unforgiving environment and will physically mature in next 2 years."

That rug really tied the room together.

I don't believe it for a moment but the accusation itself speaks volumes. Keys obviously feels it's credible to suggest that a pundit should be instructed what to say by someone.

What does that say about him and Andy Gray?
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I think this has been publicised before, but Paul Tomkins was told by a Sky Sports employee that Keys & Gray continually referred to Benitez as 'Fat Spanish waiter' off-camera.

You only have to look at their constant and relentless panning on the dreaded zonal marking to see how much they hated him - they clearly hated him on a personal level, far beyond any professional (and I use the term lightly) capacity.

                      You're exaggerating. It's just a bag.

He's ****ing brilliant, as good as I've seen football punditry and probably as good as it can get. His stints on MNF make the whole thing worth watching regardless of the game. Who cares that he used to be a cunt we all hated - he's finished playing now, he's just a bloke.

I think he's very fair and I think most like him as a pundit because we can relate to him, you can see his passion and I wouldn't ask anyone to pretend not to love their club but he's not a cunt about it.

He says it how it is, if we're bad I genuinely watch post match analysis because I can tolerate him unlike most who just get carried away and skyperbole to rob a phrase.

Saying Neville was sent to botch De Gea is ridiculous, it was a bit harsh but anyone who has watched Neville knows and he admits himself that he is critical of keepers.

As a player, I ****ing hated him! As a pundit I can't think of anyone who can even come close to him, his football knowledge is refreshing and he's ruthless with his opinions.

Neville's commentary is terrible though. He tries to over complicate it. He is better pre and post match.
