Then you add say £50k more a week in wages to Suarez and Gerrard.

    That means £5.2m.

Then we offer say four players £20k more a week in wages.

    £4.1m

    In total 14.5m.

I doubt very much that the club would be in any risk at all.

Then you add one top class player on big wages a season.

Leeds did what we did and payed out massive wages to average players. Even the goldfish got £40 a week.

We would only pay out massive wages to our top quality players.

You keep saying that, but Brendan clearly thought he was. Rodgers wants to add around 25 more goals and Mkhitaryan scored that amount himself last season. We need to add more goals from midfield, he was capable of providing them. We were prepared to spend £25m on him - which more than suggests the club felt he was 'essential to the squad'.

It wouldn't work if you did it without playing in the CL and didn't had a big stadium that you sold out almost every game.

I can't see a problem doing it the next three years or so until the stadium is finished. It is a big chance that we would qualify for the CL before then. If we did that then it wouldn't be a problem even before the stadium is finished.

If we did it a long time without having the finances to do it then it would be a problem.

In three years or so that kind of wages won't be a problem because then we will get in much more revenue thanks to 60k instead of 45k.

A problem is of course how to we will be able to get 60k in almost every game. A top class squad challenging at the top would sort out that problem.

That means spending big in the transfer market and wages until then.

We did alright last season without him on the goal front.
Rodgers said he would target to add 20 goals to the team. He fits our style of play and can fit into multiple position across the front, not to mention proven goal scoring. Thus its naturally upsetting that we have missed out on this target.

Doubt the additional goals are going to come from the team. Goals from midfield is really low and this player was going to improve that aspect. And yes, i do hope other players we are looking at could provide the same threat or goals.

I'm intrigued to see who Rodgers and co will go for now. It's obviously going to be a midfielder who can either create a lot, or score a number of goals.

I still wouldn't mind Eriksen, as he has that potential, and he'd probably be cheaper.

That's exactly the kind of player Rodgers wants. Not overly creative just a goal getter with a decent engine. That's why if we miss out on mkhitrayan eriksen isn't the natural fall back option.

They're totally different players playing in a similar role. One is a midfield player who will get forward, the other is a creative attacking player who stays forward. Two totally different no.10's and we already have coutinho and suso who can be the creative 10. We dont need another one imo.

I'm sure there are at least 4 back up names that haven't been mentioned yet. We may have lost this one but we are still in the 1st week of July, 7 more weeks of guessing/making up ****e to go.

Bottom line is that we have to trust the scout "group" to provide the type of player BR wants. So far they have not done anything to make me doubt their ability..

Give it a chance y'all, we still have the Suarez debacle to get through.

FWIW I do not believe that finance is an issue, Arn there are several ways to skin a cat and throwing money at some top mercenaries is one way, the other way is astutely buying the next superstars at 21 for £7-15 m and hope that BR can gel them into a team with his philosophies to compete with a bunch of overpaid prima donnas.

That could take a few more seasons of small improvements, meanwhile, the new gecko eyed ginge finance gal can work on Anfield revival/rebuild and either borrow at historically low interest rates or sponsorship or combo of both without bankrupting the club. Remember we almost got there ..

My guess is FSG are determined to stick to this plan for now.
