Release clauses are "meaningless" in the Spanish market when a spanish club make the offer.

We for example triggered a release clause in Reinas contract when we signed him.

We did the same with Aspas allegedly.

      Bayern activated Götzes buy-out clause.

Dortmund was but couldn't stop the deal going through.

Reds face fight to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Armenian star attracting interest from host of top clubs

Liverpool have a fight on their hands if they are to win the race to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The attacking midfielder from Shakhtar Donetsk is a target for manager Brendan Rodgers but the Reds face a battle to secure his services.

Mkhitaryan will cost Liverpool around £20m but their biggest challenge will be in seeing off the interest from a host of top European clubs said to be preparing bids for him.

The Armenian has attracted the attention of a number of sides after his performances in this season’s Champions League for Donetsk. Mkhitaryan scored 25 goals in the Ukrainan league in the last campaign and is seen as the ideal player to help add the extra ‘20 goals’ that Rodgers believes will push them towards Champions League qualification.

The lack of European football at Anfield next summer could be another stumbling block in Liverpool’s pursuit of the talented 24-year-old.

Earlier in the campaign, Mkhitaryan was said to have caught the attention of Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City although it remains unclear if they are keen.

But Liverpool’s interest is real and should they manage to bring the Donetsk star to Merseyside then it will be seen as statement of intent as well as a reminder as to the pulling power of the club.

A three-time Armenian player of the year, Mkhitaryan said it was his wish to play for “one of the strongest clubs in the world” earlier this season.

Just the standard clubs being linked to try and raise the price I guess.
          *Except Michael, who died.

A bit of that maybe but IMO more a case of "look, LFC can still sign anyone we want". Maybe reading too much into it.

So why did you post a link how it works in Spain?

Even in Spain a release clause isn't meaningless. If you pay the VAT etc then the club can't stop the deal going through.

This is taking too long IMO, United manage to sign players fast and without anyone noticing.
                      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That discussion is well beyond tedious in the Suarez thread, can we not have it spill into other threads too please?
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.

                        Mine angry and defrauded young?

We've only been linked with him for 2 weeks! And they have as many transfer sagas as anyone.

Yep - we just pay no attention to theirs while we're all over ours. No different. No way can we complain about slow transfer work. I know we've actually only signed Kolo and Aspas (in principle!) but this seems to be great work from the club so far.

                              Exactly.
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

If we don't shake a leg, get the thumb out of the arse, AVB will make his move soon. It has become too public knowledge, even City with their renown scouting department are aware of him.
