Liverpool given fresh Mkhitaryan hope, Suarez latest, Downing exit
By This Is Anfield on June 26, 2013
Liverpool have been given renewed hope in landing Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan after a day of reports, rumours and even “sightings” of Mkhitaryan between Heathrow Airport and Liverpool.
Earlier today we reported that German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund had launched a bid for Mkhitaryan, eyeing the Armenian international to replace Mario Gotze, who has signed for rivals Bayern Munich.
However, Mirror reporter David Anderson has this afternoon revealed that Dortmund’s bid was wasted, falling short of Shakhtar’s asking price of £25million.
Ukranian football website, football.ua, report this afternoon that Shakhtar general director Sergei Palkin has confirmed the bid from Dortmund, the first time he has confirmed interest from a club in Mkhitaryan this summer.
Yesterday he denied reports that Liverpool had been in negotiations over the 24-year-old midfielder.
Meanwhile over in Spain, newly appointed Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has “refused to clarify his position over the pursuit of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez“, according to talkSPORT
“We haven’t spoken yet about new signings, because it’s my first day here,” Ancelotti said on his unveiling at the Bernabeu. “Today I can not say who goes or who stays. There is no time. In the coming days we will know.”
The Birmingham Mail report Aston Villa’s interest in resigning Stewart Downing, who left the club for Liverpool two years ago.
Downing was made available for transfer by Brendan Rodgers last season, but enjoyed a resurgence of form in the second half of the campaign and is one of the Reds’ few wide options.
The Independent have also been involved in today’s Rumour Mill, suggesting that Liverpool’s interest in Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori has hit a problem.
They report:
Liverpool do have an interest in the player and Sporting’s hand may be forced by their urgent need of money from the transfer market this summer. Sources in Portugal have suggested that Liverpool have offered €3.5m net (£2.9m) for the 20-year-old, who was born in London though who has played all of his youth football in Portugal, with the last seven years in Sporting’s youth ranks.

I refer you to the original Suarez thread.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostHas there ever and I mean ever been so much hype and bull**** spouted over a proposed transfer for a player 85% of fans or more have never even heard of 2 months ago, let alone seen play. Unreal. I hope we get him, because I'll feel let down now if we don't. I like us spending money. Gives me hope we'll have a good season. Although we all know that doesn't always work out. Imagine we get him and he breaks his leg against stoke. Or he is just plain ****, out of his depth and unable to cope so far from home. Or if he's great but then jumps ship to join barca or Madrid which is inevitable these days apparently.Oh I don't know.

as a club we need to be looking few years down the line and players like Alberto are proof of that. But we also need the first team to be better because this season we have to make a proper challenge on the champions league places.Originally posted by Sarb View PostThis is when deals like Alberto stop making sense. Need to go extra mile on bids for top quality players. Alberto money would be useful now
were going to do that by signing some experienced top class players as opposed to top class prospects which Alberto is. the first team isn't good enough as it stands and although we had a very good last six months im not sure whether that's a good indication as to how the team will play this season. Even though we all hope it is.
Rodgers will go back to his preferred 433 imo and this season we will see the real Rodgers philosophy as opposed to the football he played to get results after Xmas. Every season is a big one for lfc but this one in particular is a huge one for the club and Brendan rodgers.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]
