Dortmund agreed cash upfront, it is how most German clubs pay. We wanted a structured installment way of paying.Originally posted by baronvonskidmark View PostThe Echo saying that Dortmund agreed a £20.5 million deal - but we couldn't agree one. I thought though that we were prepared to go to £25 million and HM wanted to come here? Just doesn't add up to me.
I may be wrong but this does seem to me to have the feeling of the club being over confident about getting him and we've dropped a bollock here.

The deal has seemed to be dragging on so something must have been difficult to work out, we know the agents fees were high but he club would have known that before going in for him. Even if its still 'on' we must be trying to balance the books in preparation or we don't value him as highly as Dortmund, which is a shame because even though I know little about him it felt like out 'big' signing.Vive la France

Arn, its not all about money for every player, though for some it does have a bearing. Its not all black and white, the world does not operate in absolutes.
Dortmund were in a similair position to LFC a few years ago - the cusp of bankruptcy and nowhere near the competitive level they should be given the size and following the club has.
They had to buy smartly, they had to recruit to get to the level where they would be able to attract more established players. They had to start over. They're further along in their process than Liverpool are - they've just played a European final, ffs. They have an exciting squad that plays energetic football, they're in the Champions League, they play in a magnificent stadium to 80,000 every week. Its no disgrace to miss out to them, in their present position. That a player has chosen Dortmund over Liverpool does not make the club or the chief exec a failure.
Patience Arn, we're getting there. I think you need to think a bit more rationally. We're signing players to get to a level, just as Dortmund have done over the last few years.

There is nowhere near enough caustic sarcasm in this Arn directed post for my liking, but agree with every wordI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Artur Petrosyan @arturpetrosyan 53m
What could be the greatest summer for #LFC is turning into a disaster..
Artur Petrosyan @arturpetrosyan 52m
But then #LFC put it on hold having lost confidence they could 'sell big' soon after 'buying big'.
Artur Petrosyan @arturpetrosyan 48m
It's hard to keep a hope when it's just 1% and #LFC doing nothing except for looking for buyers for Suarez.
