Well, if Liverpool have put their negotiations on hold, then they clearly have been doing something and not 'nothing' like he says.

I'm sure we're capable of multi-tasking, but football is renowned for transfers to be set-up and then complete like a domino effect.

I think the club won't be spending massively in terms of net on paper. Lets not forget that we were apparently close to going bust under those other two clowns, FSG are footing the bill until we become more sustainable. Sensible way to run it but will the fans be patient?

The only reason we'd sell Suarez IMO is that he wants to leave. To get into advanced negotiations with targets ahead of selling Suarez suggests that we must have cash. Im giving the club the benefit of the doubt here. If the rest of our budget depends on sales God help us as I don't think we'll sell Suarez and if we do we'll get screwed in any transfer fees as usual. They've a lot more to do before I'm convinced this has been the very good transfer window some believe

If Henry was to be a replacement when we sell Suarez then I hope it fails & we keep Luis. He may be a nutter but we know he can play in the Prem which we do not know for sure that Henry can.

              Agreed.

We've spent £3m this summer. I'd like to think our summer transfer budget was a tad larger than that.

That is just so far from the truth mate, we have to pay players signing on fees as well as agent(s) fees and tax on all money we spend. It would be very naive to just look at transfer fees.

Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin has denied reports that Borussia Dortmund have agreed a fee for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, although he said a deal may be close.

Dortmund are in talks over a deal for Mkhitaryan.
It had been claimed that Mkhitaryan had agreed a €25 million move to Dortmund, with Liverpool thought to have given up hope of landing the Armenia international.

However, Palkin had said in recent days that Shakhtar would not accept anything less than €30 million and it appears that, while talks are ongoing, their stance has not changed.

Asked about Mkhitaryan, football.ua quoted Palkin as saying: “I have not talked to him. Borussia have offered us €25 million - to us, this is not enough, but we are talking to the German club. There is a possibility that we will come to an agreement in the near future.”

Palkin said he was unsure whether the 24-year-old had already agreed terms with the Champions League finalists.

“Such questions should be directed to the player and his representatives,” he said.

Probably not but his creativity can add that many goals to Luis, Sturridge and/or Aspas totals.

Our summer budget should be big enough to buy Mkhitaryan without any need to sell someone first.

I don't think he was going to be a replacement for Luis at all.

Dortmund were in a similair position to LFC a few years ago - the cusp of bankruptcy and nowhere near the competitive level they should be given the size and following the club has.

They had to buy smartly, they had to recruit to get to the level where they would be able to attract more established players. They had to start over. They're further along in their process than Liverpool are - they've just played a European final, ffs. They have an exciting squad that plays energetic football, they're in the Champions League, they play in a magnificent stadium to 80,000 every week. Its no disgrace to miss out to them, in their present position. That a player has chosen Dortmund over Liverpool does not make the club or the chief exec a failure.

Patience Arn, we're getting there. I think you need to think a bit more rationally. We're signing players to get to a level, just as Dortmund have done over the last few years.
Big differences between Dortmund and us.

Dortmund play in the Bundesliga that have different ownership rules. No sugardaddys.

They also have a very big stadium packed almost every game.

We have some mega rich clubs to compete with and must because of that also spend big in the transfer market and must pay more in wages.

Dortmund only really have Bayern to compete with. We have Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U and Tottenham.

A few other clubs can also spend very big and pay very big wages.

Then you can also add the Klopp factor. The players out there have seen that he will get the best out of the players. We and the rest of the world don't have a clue if Rodgers can do that.

Time will tell. It looks promising but it is to early to say that Rodgers can do what Klopp done at Dortmund when it comes down to developing players.

If we would have to sell big before signing big then we won't progress.

We must be able to keep our best players and sign top class players. That is progress.

                        That makes the squad stronger.

What would happen if we sold Suarez and can't get in a top class replacement?

I think that you know the answer to that one.

Sign up the top class player first then you can sell a player like Suarez if you really must do it.

We can't gamble and make the squad weaker before we strenghten it.

The club have been losing money every year since the club was bought and the owners have to put a stop to it, it can't continue and we'd struggle to meet FFP or at least would have as of last year. That's the reason for the wage cuts we've seen, this £20m budget is pure fantasy made up in the media and its stuck.

Well, yeah. But if we want to talk headline figures about something we can at least guess at, we've spent £3m. If you wanna disect the accounts, I look forward to analysing the club's released accounts when the time comes.

I think we can safely say we've spend more than £3m, I'd expect more still to come but the books need balancing look at last years we lost £50m or something a long those lines.
