However, the most worrying aspect was his stereotyping of what an English player is. Needs to STFU and concentrate on his own game really.

I've said it before but for me personally, I used to love a Stuart Pearce slide tackle on the touchline, where the ball was won and the player was thrown up into the air more than someone doing a fancy bit of skill. Or a McMahon crunching two footer. Hence the reason that I find football these days is nowhere near as enjoyable as back in the 80's/early90's.
s'funny how opinions can be polarised but I feel the exact opposite.

I much prefer the fast flowing one touch stuff with amazing skill than seeing a lump take out an opponent.

Each to their own and all that.... but I for the life of me can't understand how anyone could prefer/enjoying watching Wimbledon to Barcelona. Which let's face it, is basically what Bob is saying

Cardiff replace head of recruitment with 23-year-old Kazakh

Cardiff have suspended their head of recruitment Iain Moody and replaced him with an unknown 23-year-old who was formerly on work experience.
Moody helped Cardiff sign summer recruits such as Gary Medel and Steven Caulker in his scouting role.
But he has been succeeded by Kazakh Alisher Apsalyamov, who was on work experience at the club in the summer and who is a friend of owner Vincent Tan's son.
          Cardiff are yet to comment.
After taking over in 2011, Scotsman Malky Mackay added Moody to his staff.
          Analysis

          Pat Murphy
          BBC Radio 5 live
"In the summer Alisher Apsalyamov was on work experience painting the walls of Cardiff City Stadium, watching their promotion games on his laptop.

"Now he's the acting head of recruitment at the age of 23, responsible for the January transfer window that could determine whether Cardiff stay in the Premier League.

"Apsalyamov is, I understand, a close friend of the son of Cardiff owner Vincent Tan.

"I believe that Moody, initially suspended by Mr Tan, has now been placed on gardening leave until the end of the season on full pay so Mackay cannot use someone with whom he has worked productively for the past seven years, first at Watford, now at Cardiff."

The Cardiff City website says Moody's football career began as a Uefa-appointed interpreter for Italy during the 1996 European Championships.
He went on to become a writer at the Football365.com website in 1999, moving to a sports management agency in 2001.
Ten years later, Moody joined Watford as press officer before becoming their football operations manager alongside then Vicarage Road boss Mackay.
BBC Sport's Pat Murphy reports that Moody has now been placed on gardening leave until the end of the season, while replacement Apsalyamov was painting the walls of Cardiff City's stadium this summer on work experience, and watching the club's promotion run-in on his laptop.
Mackay's former team-mate Iwan Roberts says the loss of a trusted member of the backroom team will be a blow.
"I'm gobsmacked, I really am," Roberts told BBC Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales.
"Iain is a trusted member of Malky's backroom staff.
"Malky will be shocked, stunned and angry that this has happened behind his back."
BBC Wales football correspondent Rob Phillips added: "Moody has been an unobtrusive, yet hugely significant, influence at Cardiff City.
"The worry for Cardiff fans will be the unsettling of Mackay - a highly rated young manager - after a decent start to the season. With Mackay pinning much faith in the team ethic throughout the club, these will be worrying developments."
Moody also helped the Bluebirds sign French right-back Kevin Theophile-Catherine, ÂŁ8m Denmark striker Andreas Cornelius, and forwards Fraizer Campbell, Jordon Mutch and Kim Bo-Kyung.
Bizzare?! And could land Cardiff in some trouble.
The times they are a changin'.

It is hardly new though, Di Stefano played for both Argentina, Colombia and Spain and you can change your nationality.

Wasn't there a female athlete who has changed her nationality twice? Canada, Qatar and someone else?

And the qualification rules in many instances are no difference than gaining nationality for citizenship/passport so I don't see it as dubious just because it is sporting competition

I'm afraid it's a poorer choice of Poyet taking the job, than Sunderland appointing him.
I can see why you say that but for me it is a no lose situation for Poyet. Do well and enhance your reputation, fail and Di Canio's failed revolution can take the blame. In his position I think you have to have a go if given the chance to take over at a PL team.

Obviously have no say in the squad make up is a bit of an issue but is it much different to the situation head coaches face in continental DoF run setups? I think a fresh eye and approach could help them. I don't think the squad is as poor as it has been this season and the international break comes as a bit of a help to them.

There are loads of examples in different sports.

My feeling more generally is that if the player has chosen to settle in the country then they should be eligible one they have citizenship. I'm not a big fan of it when countries go out to poach players/athletes as some of the gulf states have clearly done in the past. Once there is a market in nationality the whole thing does seem rather pointless.

Nah, I do like good football, not so much Barcelona as I find it fairly tedious at times but good attacking quick football is a joy. Its just if you had to pick one part of the game of football that I used to enjoy whilst playing and when watching and that is a good honest hard tackle over a nutmeg or a step over. Its what gets the blood pumping. Wimbledon ffs.

Fair point the first, guess it could work out that way, but it could also set him back a while for a top flight job again. All depends.

On the second part, you could probably say that about any new manager coming in, especially at mid-season, DoF or no DoF. What I specifically was thinking about in this case is the fact that Sunderland have changed some ~20 players in their squad this season. So it's not just about getting a team to know you tactic you have had no selection on, but also getting them to play together, get the squad together and that's a lot tougher than just brining in new ideas and freshen up the mood a bit.
