Danny Mills has a nice, almost middle class accent. Never mind the fact he couldn't play for toffee and just went round booting people.

You don't need to have been a good footballer to work for the FA on improving the game in this country. Why would anyone think such a bizarre thought

I know the FA are a joke, but I don't think they're recruiting on the back of the coq au vin someone has rustled up in front of a camera.

Thought he'd retired ages ago! thanks for the goals at OT...

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has officially announced his retirement from football.
"There have been some press reports about whether I'm still playing or available but I decided a little while ago I would retire, I just didn't make it official," he said.
"So now I'm officially retiring because I'm sick of having conversations about it and almost stringing people along. I decided three or four weeks ago I was done.
"This is me, 20 years, I'm done. I've had a wonderful career and can look back on it with fondness."
The 36-year-old made 249 appearances for the Reds across seven years in the first team at Anfield, winning two League Cups, one FA Cup and a UEFA Cup.
Murphy is arguably best remembered among the club's supporters for his three separate winning goals against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Earlier this year, the Englishman was voted into 53rd place by fans in the 100 Players Who Shook the Kop countdown for 2013.
The versatile midfielder also represented Crewe Alexandra, Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers during his career, in addition to winning nine caps for England.Last edited by Yozza; 10-10-13, 11:25 AM.What do you mean it could've been anyone? The biggest joke sport for this has to be Rugby League.Originally posted by dww View Post
There are loads of examples in different sports.
My feeling more generally is that if the player has chosen to settle in the country then they should be eligible one they have citizenship. I'm not a big fan of it when countries go out to poach players/athletes as some of the gulf states have clearly done in the past. Once there is a market in nationality the whole thing does seem rather pointless.
One player from the Manly Sea Eagles (My local team) have a player who was selected for the Tonga national team for the world cup, pending his selection to the Australian team! And he was also asked to play for Samoa due to ancestry. In other words he has chosen to play for Tonga, after missing out on selection for Australia at this World Cup.
Basically if players aren't picked for England/Australia/New Zealand they pick another nation who they are eligible for and play for them.
Some have played for Samoa then been picked for New Zealand and then back to Samoa.
It's a total farce to get as many professional players playing in all the teams, but effectively ensures that all the lowest nations are never going to be able to keep their players as they are able pick a better nation to play for if they are good enough.
At least footballers have to stay with the same nation.96 Never Forgotten

The most stupid thing about this Januzaj debate is that he's played 1 or 2 games for the Utd first team and he scored 2 goals against the bottom club in the league. Yeah they're well taken but it's still only goals against Sunderland. It's triggered a whole national debate and loads of people just going off on one. Crazy

I had him lined up before he scored the 2 goals, so was raging when he did. Only benefit is, he can sit on my subs bench for a few weeks and be sold at a profit. The same reason for buying Ramsey the other week, although typicaly the only week he comes off my bench is last week when he musters 1 f*cking point.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I put Ramsey in my team, solely to stop him scoring. It workedOriginally posted by RedReet View PostI had him lined up before he scored the 2 goals, so was raging when he did. I just think you can point to examples (Sven-Göran Eriksson at City would be one) where a lot of new players gelled very quickly. I think if you keep a simple message going you can make a team quickly. I don't know that it is harder as the group has no set ideas of it's own meaning bringing your own plan could be easier.Originally posted by Darkon View PostFair point the first, guess it could work out that way, but it could also set him back a while for a top flight job again. All depends.
On the second part, you could probably say that about any new manager coming in, especially at mid-season, DoF or no DoF. What I specifically was thinking about in this case is the fact that Sunderland have changed some ~20 players in their squad this season. So it's not just about getting a team to know you tactic you have had no selection on, but also getting them to play together, get the squad together and that's a lot tougher than just brining in new ideas and freshen up the mood a bit.
I don't think PL jobs come round often enough in a situation where they might be open to an inexperienced manager for Poyet to think of it as a risk of not getting a better position."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
