Evra summoned after slamming French pundits as ‘bums’ and ‘parasites’


PATRICE EVRA WILL have to explain himself to French football bosses after he slammed his critics as “bums” and “parasites”.

Former internationals Bixente Lizarazu and Luis Fernandez bore the brunt of Evra’s rant in an interview on TF1 show Telefoot.

The Manchester United defender labelled the pundits as “bums” and “parasites” on Sunday and claimed they are “lying to France” with their criticism.

FFR President Noel Le Graet and coach Didier Deschamps will meet with Evra to seek an explanation for the comments, a statement indicated.

Evra was involved in a national-team bust-up during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and believes his critics still hold that against him.

“They want to lie to the people of France, saying Evra is unloved. Arrogant? This is not true,” he said.

“When I meet people in the street they are super friendly. I have no problem with people, just with pundits.

“I took (French pundit) Michel Fernandel on a visit to Old Trafford in 2008. He thought it was like Euro Disney.

“Lizarazu, I do not know what he has against me. He has his reasons. I do not know what Lizarazu has against me.

“He was never voted the best full-back in the world, like I was. With France, he did not shake my hand when I arrived, but he’s like that.

They should stop talking, they go too far. It does not hurt me at all because I am a happy man.

There are many people who would like to be in my place. It does not affect me at all, but the problem is that it can affect my family.

“These bums should stop lying to France. They are parasites.”

Evra and France face a play-off to secure a place in next year’s World Cup in Brazil after finishing second behind Spain in qualifying.

The Blackpool manager Paul Ince received a five-match stadium ban for "violently shoving" a fourth official in an expletive-laden rant, according to evidence given at an FA hearing.

Ince last week learned he would not be allowed to enter any stadium Blackpool were playing in on a matchday for their next five contests for his actions following their 2-1 win over Bournemouth last month.

The Seasiders manager was sent to the stands after throwing a bottle which hit a female spectator and his irate reaction after the final whistle, which the FA found breached three rules, landed him in hot water.

On Thursday the FA disclosed the full extent of Ince's actions as it revealed he physically assaulted the fourth official Mark Pottage while using a series of expletives.

In the report, the referee Oliver Langford said: "At the end of the game as we left the field of play as a team of match officials we were confronted by a clearly very irate Mr Paul Ince.

"On confronting us Mr Ince asked why he had been sent to the stand. I explained to Mr Ince the reason why he had politely been asked to leave the technical area. It was then a clearly frustrated Mr Ince had said 'and where's your busy ****er of a fourth?'

"Mark Pottage, the fourth official, was stood behind Mr Ince at the time and said: 'I'm here.'

"Mr Ince then turned around and violently shoved Mr Pottage with two hands in to the chest. Stewards then quickly stepped in and tried to usher Mr Ince to the dressing room area.

"As this occurred Mr Ince, being restrained by stewards and players of Blackpool, was repeatedly shouting in an aggressive manner: 'I'll knock you ****ing out you cunt,' to Mr Pottage."

In an examination during the hearing, Langford added that "Mr Ince's eyes were bulging" as he squared up to Pottage.

Giving his own evidence Ince, who denied using the word 'cunt' said: "As I turned around, Mr Pottage stepped forward and was 'fronting me up' in my face. I felt intimidated, so I instinctively pushed him away.

"The push was not aggressive; only enough to move him away from where I was, only in order to avoid a real possibility of a one-to-one confrontation. However, I know I should not have pushed him and I wholeheartedly apologise."

The FA, though, found all three breaches of the Rule E3 were proven and imposed a five-match stadium ban on Ince as a result.

QUILMES COACH NELSON Vivas has handed in his resignation after punching a fan in a 1-1 draw with Atletico Rafaela on Friday.

The 44-year-old – who spent part of his playing career representing Premier League side Arsenal – had to be restrained by police after turning on a Quilmes supporter during the match. Vivas only took the job at Quilmes – his first managerial role – at the start of the season, but resigned as a result of his attack on the fan.

Vivas, who spent three years at Arsenal from 1998 to 2001, said his actions were out of character.

“I’m not a violent person but I realise that’s not the image a trainer should give,” Vivas said. Quilmes president Anibal Fernandez said that Vivas was aware of his mistake but that he had no choice but to accept his resignation.

“He came to my office and handed in his resignation. He knows he put his foot in it and realises the situation is uncomfortable for the team and regrets his actions,” he told Radio La Red.

“We’re trying all means to curb violence (in football in Argentina) and he can’t commit such an error.” The now-managerless Quilmes are 16th in the Argentina Primera Division, with just one win in their last seven league games.
