If only it were true

**** sake. Seemed eminently believable.

They have a large fanbase within their own city but globally they do not have anything of real note.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Same as why some players avoided the North West until a few years ago, everyone wanted London.Originally posted by Scratch View PostGiven the facts that even tho they have CL football, rich owners and a large fan base, why are they struggling to attract players. I suspect that they haven't laid the ground work either to be honest. It smacks of that. No director of football, it looks like they got to the end of the season, realized that they qualified for CL and then thought "hey let's see who we sign then"
They should have been all over Kelleher, Quansah and Elliott in my view. And Nunez too.

I mentioned in the transfer chat they are competing with the top clubs for players. They are probably targeting the right players and have had success with Gordon and Tonali recently in that age range but they didn’t have competition for them. As soon as Liverpool or Man Utd, even at there current level, come in to it they’re going to lose out.

Good points and IMO they’re more likely to attract lesser players who’ve dreamt of playing in the CL at some stage of their lives but never really expected to. I thought Sesko might give the green light to go there but maybe the Isak saga has added another level of stenchMe, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I think that they are probably the biggest small club in the country, they have a big fan base, but you rarely find a Newcastle fan outside of the North East.
I think their are multiple problems in play for them here:
1) They don't have a director of football and their approach to transfers looks amateurish
2) They are in the CL but they aren't a "CL club" - They scraped into the CL this season by the skin of their teeth thanks to a poor officiating performance in the Villa game at the end of the season. For me there is a difference between a CL club and a club in the CL. - A CL club is a club who are more often than not going to be in the CL and are able to go deep into it, a club in the CL are just a club who are in it sometimes, for me that's where Newcastle are. If you are joining them as a player I think you look at them and think, yes they are in the CL this year but are they likely to qualify next year and the year after, if the answer to that is just maybe I think you look elsewhere.
3) They are trying to compete with the top clubs for top players often those clubs are "CL clubs" or other top clubs with high profiles or big reputations e.g. Man Utd, despite the fact Man Utd were **** last year they still have the reputation and are an attractive proposition for players. They need to try and look for players who are undervalued like we did with Mane and Salah, when we were building Klopp's title winning side we weren't competing with the top clubs for players, we were having to find undervalued options and develop them. Newcastle don't seem willing to do that
4) Money - despite having rich owners they don't have the revenue to attract players by just throwing massive amounts of money in wages at them like City were able to do when they were building up.
5) Location - not meaning to have a pop at the City here but IMO players particularly overseas players will want to be part of a community with people they know from international scene. This might not be a popular view but players will be mates with international colleagues at rival clubs and they and their families can hang out together. In the NW Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City for example all have South American players who can all live near one another (e.g. Cheshire) hangout together and for communities which will reduce the likelihood of them being homesick, The same will be true in London. Newcastle is the only big club in that area so unless there is another Brazilian or whatever nationality player at Newcastle there is less likely to be that community or supportThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

You see, and this is only my opinion... Villa are ****ed from PSR (and don't seem to be pulling a Chelsea to get out of it). So they have to sell. Ramsey over Ollie Watkins is more palatable to Newcastle and Villa.Originally posted by peterbread View PostNewcastle are signing Ramsey from Villa. Doesn’t he play as a LW and they have both Gordon and Barnes for that role. Gordon said he’d be happy to play upfront. The Liverpool fan helping Isak get both their dreams
Probably in there for midfield depth as I know he can play there as well.
Newcastle insofar as they can say they can't get another striker in. Although that seems risky in the extreme.
