Comparing value based on Downing's transfer fee is ridiculous though as we all know we got massively ripped off.

We bought Coutinho for £8.5m. Do you think Costa is almost three times the player Coutinho is?

    See it works both ways

Valuations are just arbitrary judgements we make. We all do it and normally we have a feeling for what a players worth based on talent, age, experience, length of contract etc. My feeling is that Costa is worth about £10m, not £20m+

Ha! The first bit, you're right.

On the second bit, looking at Costa at the age of 24 with close to 100 games in La Liga and a capped Brazilian international, it's not hard to see why he's worth around £20m.

It's all about the value he brings to the team though. If he's a part of the managers plans and we land him, i'm happy whatever he costs.

He's only got two caps , Brazil play so many internationals these days that they cap about 150 players a year. Fred and even Jo get in the National Team ahead of him.

Anyway it does look like we're genuinely after him so we might soon see exactly how good he is.

But he is not primarily and out and out forward like those two?

Nor is that a remotely sensible argument.

                    He's twice as good

I wasn't saying those things mean he's the next Pele or anything, just that I can't imagine you'd get someone from a medium to large club like Athletico, at that age, with that experiences, for much less than £20m.

Having said that, if we pull this off I can see him doing a similar job to what Kuyt provided when he played under Rafa as a wide forward. They have similar attributes but Costa has more ability imo.

...if that compilation is typical of him in 90 minutes, then he's aggressive, tenacious like a terrier (cue Nige and a picture), a diver, a wind-up merchant, a bang average finisher, a good penalty taker, a dirty *******, a talker, a first touch like Kuyt, fast and direct... overall, a right royal pain in the arse for the opposition.

                                Sign him up.
