Thibaut Courtois has been given the green light to face Chelsea after UEFA warned the Blues their demand of £5million from Atletico Madrid to play the on-loan goalkeeper was against the rules.UEFA have acted quickly to block off the Stamford Bridge club's move, before the two were drawn against each other in the Champions League semi-finals.
A statement from UEFA said: 'The integrity of sporting competition is a fundamental principle for UEFA. Both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA disciplinary regulations contain clear provisions which strictly forbid any club to exert, or attempt to exert, any influence whatsoever over the players that another club may (or may not) field in a match.'It follows that any provision in a private contract between clubs which might function in such a way as to influence who a club fields in a match is null, void and unenforceable so far as UEFA is concerned.'Furthermore, any attempt to enforce such a provision would be a clear violation of both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA disciplinary regulations and would therefore be sanctioned accordingly.'Last edited by destinydude; 11-04-14, 01:06 PM.Patience when teased often, transforms into rage

Apparently Atletico probably still won't play him cos they don't want to upset Chelsea. They want him on loan again next season.

There is still a problem though because Chelsea are scheduled to play Sunderland on Sunday 20th April and then Madrid on Tuesday 22nd April. Clearly the Sunderland game will need to be changed because of this.Originally posted by G View PostIf they are playing on the wednesday after us nobody needs to move anything. 3 days is plenty or they'd have to start moving league games before midweek league games and cup games. Dangerous precedent.
Sunday - Tuesday was the issue they were trying to solve.
Spurs play Fulham on BT Sport 12:45 on Saturday 19th April and Arsenal play Hull on sky 5:30 so I imagine the Chelsea v Sunderland game will replace one of those matches.

That's what I said, the Sunderland game will be moved, not ours. You disagreed! Theres no need for ours to move.Clearly something needs to move and it doesn't make any sense for it to be our game.

Let me see if I can find that 'steady' post after I said we'd win it next yearOriginally posted by Daniel 7 View PostBayern do look like they'd struggle to cope with the pace an movement of our front three - they seem to have issues with Welbeck, ffs. Imagine Raheem up against them in his current form? There's very little in the Champions League to fear. The biggest problem for Liverpool will be squad size and fixtures.

Sorry I thought you meant the Sunderland v Everton game as that's the game Sunderland said they would not move.Originally posted by G View Post

Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostI think it's the best draw possible for them. Every team is tough, but Atletico are the least experienced side when it comes to these late stages of the competition. Bayern would have been the worst draw, seeing as they've already won the league and will be well rested for the games.
In the CL yes, but they are also a team that has gotten to the final of the Europa league twice during the three seasons prior to this one, and they won it each time. So in terms of knock out comps, they are experienced.
They have also won the European supercup twice during that time period, so again that adds to their experience of being in European finals.
Don't think they will be found lacking when they meet Chelsea.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
