Has the Coentrão deal definitely fell through?

The way some people are talking you'd think Arsenal had signed Messi. He's good, but he's not that good. They still have an appalling keeper, a dodgy defence, no bite in midfield and a striker shortage.

Told that imposter story (Man U, Herrera) is not true.

There is quite a difference between not knowing someone and them being "imposters"
      Sid Lowe ‏@sidlowe 7h
What there has been, I think, is a major communication breakdown.
      Sid Lowe ‏@sidlowe 6h
I think the problem resides really in the use of the word "imposter", which sounds much stronger than it was probably intended to.
      Sid Lowe ‏@sidlowe 6h
Anyway, just thought I'd mention that as I originally mentioned the story on tv then had the other side of it explained to me. Night all.

Lawyers for club. Lawyers for player. Not the same thing. That lies at root of problem. That and lack of communication.

Seems Real stopped it from going through on their end so no go it appears. Probably the Mancs will be chasing the FA and the Spanish FA though trying to bully it through.

Reckon they will get it done then. Good signing that.

I reckon it will fall through. Madrid will do all they can to stop it now

So do Madrid! They basically still run La Liga. They're a more powerful club than United in terms of influence that's for sure.

Not sure you can claim United get what they want any more based on recent evidence

If Gill and Ferguson were still there, they'd probably have ensured Coentrao went through. Now though, it's doubtful

Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao's loan move to Manchester United fails

Manchester United's last-gasp deal to tempt left-back Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid on a season-long loan has failed.

Fabio Coentrao - Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao's loan move to Manchester United fails

By Telegraph Sport, and agencies8:32AM BST 03 Sep 2013

Having missed out on England fullback Leighton Baines, United manager David Moyes turned his attentions to Portuguese international Coentrao.

It seemed he had pulled off an amazing last-ditch coup but apparently the paperwork was not completed in time and Coentrao will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The news will be greeted with dismay by United fans, who have been less than impressed with the club's dealings during the window.

And it leaves Moyes in the tricky position of needing to explain to Patrice Evra why he felt another left-back was required.

One theory was that Coentrao would have operated at left-back, with Evra in a more advanced role, which he played during his early years as a professional.

Nevertheless, Evra's form last season and the early weeks of the current one was not that of a man who needed replacing.

Now the France star will remain in his favoured role, with Alex Buttner also set to stay at Old Trafford as his deputy following talks over loan deals with both Besiktas and Celtic.

James Cooper on SSN last night said that someone at UTD had suggested if Coentrao was signed Moyes would look to push Evra further forward to left midfield.

They have a **** load of players who can play wide but he wants to convert a fullback.
