Didn't exactly cause you or your family any material harm though did it? I reserve death celebrations for people that cause hardship for people and society in general (Thatcher etc).Originally posted by baitman View PostPoison and corruption of the once beautiful game. Was muß, das muß.

Not seen any more details but seems that it's a result of being released by City. It's something that there needs to be support for these kids for.
Thoughts with the familyThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

An academy player not getting a shot at Man City, he must have been shocked.
But seriously, these lads can see the path to millionairedom so clearly in front of them, to feel so close to it and then to be looking for a plumbers apprenticeship or a move to Hartlepool utd, it's a psychological rollercoaster, and all at the age of 16/17. Being honest, the whole system feels abusive, or at least exploitative.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

The global and local trade in young footballing talent leaves a lot to be desired.
All clubs have a responsibility, and I'm not sure any of them take that responsibility seriously enough.Oh I don't know.

That is so sad. Agree with others that better support, education and guidance is needed to prepare these young lads/lasses for life (choices, career paths and emphasis on opportunities).Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThis is awful

Very sad news, R.I.P.
I think it’s not fair the way they reported it- “as a result of being released by city”... come on, it’s a result of depression/mental health issues. It could have as easily been any PL team.
I do think systematically, there should be things in place to make sure the guys who don’t make it are better set up. I’m living in the US and feel that the college system is ****ed up here- however, a promising young football player will get a scholarship to go to college, and only after they graduate, they go to the nfl- so the guys who don’t make it, at least have a degree* and haven’t put all their eggs in one basket.
*they don’t go to any classes or nothing- play college football and bang cheerleaders for 3/4 years, but still have a degree to show for it.I don't tip

One of the bad things with modern football is the desire to find the next big thing. Rich clubs hoover up all the young talent with the aim of hoping one of them make it to the first team - the tiny percentage that do in no way balances the ones that end up on the scrap heap. I remember when I was young (
) some youngster would tear it up in the lower leagues but now they are bought at 16 and their path to first team football is blocked so they don’t get exposed to real football and develop.
The bad advice they get (Bobby D) for example from supposed agents adds to the **** show. Then there is the South American model with part ownership and even more corruption....

That’s horrendous. What a waste.
