Footballers demand compensation over 'data misuse'
Hundreds of footballers have threatened legal action against the data collection industry, which could change how information is handled.
Led by former Cardiff City, Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade, 850 players want compensation for the trading of their performance data over the past six years.
They also want an annual fee from the companies for any future use.
Might backfire when nobody wants to buy them. What about their own clubs using the data to track performance?
Interesting what may be regarded as personal data.
Personally, I only view these things on how they might aversely affect Football Manager. Gone are the days where you have teams with made up footballers.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
I suppose personal data would be things like height, weight, potentially even date of birth. Public information like games/minutes played, goals scored, assists etc would be public domain information
All of that stuff appears in programmes and such... surely public domain?
I feel like its biting the hand that feeds you.
Next they will be suing football computer games companies because they dont like their composure rating.
I guess like it or not, if you are lucky enough to have a career in sports you are a public figure, and a certain level of expectation comes with that. I am not sure how much compensation they think that is worth, or who would pay it. How woupd this work in the lower leagues? Surely scouts have always held data such as this going back, with less sophistication.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
Gudjohnsen is now assistant manager of Iceland. Two of his son's came on yesterday and combined for a goal that Andri Lucas scored. Was a nice moment
