Garth Crooks' team of the year: Ederson, Rudiger, Rice, Saka, Antonio - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59821480
Mo Salah scored more goals in the PL in the calendar year than any other player. 24. Next highest is Kane with 18.
You could almost debate every other place in a team of the year, other than Salah’s.Modifying post.

Burnt out by 30....
Former Seagulls midfielder Davy Propper retires from football
Ex-Brighton midfielder Davy Propper has retired from football at the age of 30, saying he "doesn't feel comfortable in the world of football".
Propper, who has 19 caps for the Netherlands, left the Seagulls last summer to re-join PSV Eindhoven after four years at the Amex Stadium.
In a statement he cited the coronavirus pandemic and a "hectic football schedule" for his decision.
"When I was abroad, I gradually lost the love for the game," he said.
Propper, whose PSV contract has been terminated by mutual consent with 18 months left, added: "It was difficult for me to observe the discipline needed to perform at my best and have my life ruled by a hectic football schedule.
"And the coronavirus crisis and the lack of visits from relatives and friends haven't done me any good, either.
"I'm grateful the club (PSV) has made me feel welcome. I had hoped to rediscover the joy in playing football but it was not to be as I don't feel comfortable in the world of football. I don't want to be part of it any longer.
"I made the final decision to call time on my playing career before Christmas and it feels like a relief. That's why I know I've made the right choice."What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Garth Crooks explains his decision to leave Salah out of his team of the year...

'No apologies' - Garth Crooks doubles down on strange Mohamed Salah decision and labels Liverpool forward 'selflish'
Garth Crooks has included Mohamed Salah in his team of the week - but claimed the forward had a negative impact on Liverpool last season
Garth Crooks has claimed Mohamed Salah had a “negative effect” on Liverpool last season - but is now back to his best.
Salah scored his 23rd goal of the season in all competitions with a sensational run and finish against his former side Chelsea on Sunday.
Having registered 32 combined goals and assists across 26 games so far this term, his form has seen the 29-year-old produce a strong argument for being the best player in the world.
However, BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has claimed Salah’s presence in the Liverpool side has not always been a positive for the Reds.
“I heard my non-selection of Mohamed Salah in my team of the year got one or two a little hot under the collar,” Crooks said in his Team of the Week column , which also included Sadio Mane.
“Well, I make no apologies for that. Salah made my team of the season but crudely chased the Golden Boot award.
“His selfishness had a negative effect on Sadio Mane in particular and, in my view, had an adverse effect on Liverpool's campaign last season - a point I made at the time.
“This season Salah looks like a team player again and his goals are coming naturally. He is no longer looking for cheap penalties and is back to the player he was the season Liverpool won the title, and that's why he makes my team of the week.”
The Egypt international finished last season with 22 goals, one behind Golden Boot winner Harry Kane, while Mane scored 11 in the previous campaign.
Though both players look set to better their previous tallies, Crooks’ insistence that Salah had a negative impact on the forward line last season is harsh.
The injury crisis that Liverpool had to battle against, particularly in defensive areas, affected the whole team and meant the Reds were unable to reach the heights and standards of their near-faultless title-winning campaign.
Now part of a more settled team once again, Liverpool’s forwards have thrived with Manchester City the only club to have scored a single goal more than Jurgen Klopp’s side, having played an extra game.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Makes no sense. Salah made his team of the season last season and is, in Crook's opinion, less selfish this season but doesn't make his team of 2021.
So he is penalising Salah for the back end of last season when we went on a blistering run to secure 3rd spot. Transfermarkt says he scored 9 and assisted 1 in 2021 last season, hardly a dreadful return. With this season's stats he must be the highest scoring player in 2021
Bizarre.

Nah....... nothing as sinister as that. Basically Crooks hasn’t a ****ing clue about football - the team he picked and the formation would tell you thatOriginally posted by Norbs View PostPlaying devil's advocate, I wonder if Crook's is a Christian and doesn't like Salah for openly showing his faith while on the field. Gundogan maybe the only other Muslim on the list but I'm not aware if he prays etc the same as Salah
