The NFL averages about 68k. But there are only 32 pro teams. The top 30 college teams average just shy of 80k. But the TV audiences for pro games dwarf the college games. Not many colleges have genuine national attraction with a wide fan base. Notre Dame is kind of unique in that respect because of the Irish Catholic thing (and that is reflected in them being the only school with their own TV deal with a big network). The parochial support for colleges is mad though. And in some places in California and Texas you get tens of thousands at big high school games. Last year's division 1 championship high school match in Texas drew 55k, more than the Miami/Buffalo NFL game the same day.

Seems fair to me that the team "cheated" against gets the spot. But Celtic were really lucky on this one, the player only played five minutes towards the end of the last game. Big screw-up by Henning Berg.Originally posted by meffin View PostThat's ridiculous! How can a beaten team be let in.
They should have kicked the team out and then gave a team a byeBlank

But it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the match- Celtic were beaten fairly, even if he played the full match it wouldn't have made a big impact. Fair enough kick them out, but don't reinstate a **** team that got thrashed, seems retardedOriginally posted by Resu View PostSeems fair to me that the team "cheated" against gets the spot. I didn't say that- so the draw would be exactly the same, but whoever drew Legia Warsaw would not have to play, and get a bye. At least they would have won their match and legitimately still be in the champions league. Its not adding a random team into the tournament.Originally posted by Resu View PostIt would be even worse IMO to give a random team not involved in the matches a free way to the CL.
So if Arsenal lose against Besiktas, but it turns out they fielded an intelligible player for 5 minutes despite winning easily, you'd be happy to have Arsenal re-instated?Originally posted by fah-qDidn't someone once see Philip Schofield ****ting into a crisp packet?

Yes I would, because I think it is the fairest way of doing it. The team that are hurt by the cheating gets the spot. A team that had nothing to do with the match in question should not get a bye just because they were lucky with the draw.Originally posted by meffin View PostI didn't say that- so the draw would be exactly the same, but whoever drew Legia Warsaw would not have to play, and get a bye. I ready that UEFA has just give fine earlier in cases like this, which is a much better penalty in this case. As you've said the game was already over. The only other time (I think) they have thrown a team out Celtic also benefitted.
But I still mean that if a team is thrown out the place should go to the team it played against.Last edited by Resu; 08-08-14, 12:35 PM.Blank

You can't start talking about oh they would never have won anyway, because how is that going to work in practice? Following the discovery that a team cheated you have a second process to decide the highly subjective issue of whether it would have affected the result? It would be farcical. You can discuss the punishment and who should benefit but you have to have one rule that always applies.Like blood on iron
