how do we compare the Spanish league to the Premier League?like for like or one better than the other?

For me, there's actually a clear distance between Messi and Ronaldo, not to dismiss Ronaldo's incredible return of goals, but for me Messi is more involved in play, chances, awareness of what's around him, the better finisher, better control etc etc.......not that Ronaldo is a complete Borini in those regard, but his obvious strength and speed has always been his two major assets.
It's tough at times considering the amount of goals both of them have chipped in with in LaLiga, but side by side on ability, I'd have no problem separating the two.

Depends how you look at it. I think their top two are easily ahead of ours, but the rest of our league is so much better than theirs.

I would say Atletico would be competitive in our league.

or the chuttle in the rest of the PL (below 6th for example) are so universally mediocre that they make it appear tougher, just by virtue of being so crap against each other.

FWIW, I think the bottom range of teams in LaLiga are worse than, or at least not as competitive, as the sides in the PL, meaning freak results probably don't happen as often as they do in the PL.
The greater quality of players in the top 3-4 makes the top end stand out more in LaLiga I think, and certainly adds to the amount of goals that the likes of Messi and Ronaldo score, as I don't believe they'd score at the same rate in England as they do over in Spain, as good as both them are.

Messi is certainly one of the best ever, but Maradona performed at every level and stood out.

Messi has been blessed with two things. Genuine wold class ability and being in a world class team for most of his career.

Maradona on the other hand was able to play in good teams and drag them to major titles.

Messi has not shown that he can drag an average team, like his national team, to a higher level but Maradona has done exactly that at club and international level.

Messi is one of the best ever in my eyes, but better than Maradona? Maybe but I think Maradona's ability to look just as good no matter what shirt he was wearing tips it his way for me.

It is difficult to argue against Messi but I simply have to, in favour of Diego Maradona. As natural talents both are incredible, Messi probably better in terms of his speed of thought and being able to execute that to perfection.

However, IMO being the greatest player requires more than ability, it needs other characteristics.... and the one that Maradona had in abundance was his leadership. His ability to shoulder the expectations of a nation (and the fanatical support at Naples) and sheer will to win almost at any cost separates him for me.

This is a debate no one can really win tbh, but Maradona had it all, albeit for a shorter period of time, and will forever be the greatest in my eyes.

Yep Maradona had a similar win at all costs mentality to what Suarez displays on the pitch.

Good point about his ability to lead a team as well. I think that often gets overlooked about Maradona and he gets regarded as being a lead by example type (which he also was) rather than being the type who organised/cajoled/demanded/geed up.

Maradona was also able to come back after some bad spells with injuries and sicknesses and establish himself as the then best player in the world.

plus you have two other things that Maradona had to contend with, awful pitches and bad ass tackling. Messi plays on billiard cloths and although he gets some treatment it isn't a 1/5 of what used to go on. 30 years ago, both Messi and Ronaldo would have been kicked 6ft in the air and ****ted on their return to terra firmer. With the possibility of the culprit receiving a yellow at best. Free to give them a second kicking mere seconds afterwards. I'd like to see the pair of them scoring as many, hobbling around the pitch.

Yeah Maradona is the best player of all time, no question. Horrible pitches, heavier boots, horrible tackling. The guy was a genus.

Actually my favourite player of all time would have been Zidane, i just thought he was a magician.
