Real Madrid are set to rename their Bernabeu stadium as part of a sponsorship deal with United Arab Emirates-based International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).

The two parties agreed their partnership, believed to be worth up to 500 million euros to the Spanish club over a period of 20 years, in October.

The name the parties have settled on is thought to be The Abu Dhabi Santiago Bernabeu, although another possibility is The Cepsa (a subsidiary Spanish company) Santiago Bernabeu.

"If you want to do it without debt, the only possibility is that we take a sponsor's name which could give us the 400 or 500 million euros the new stadium is worth.

"We have spoken to 10 companies to see if someone is capable of attaching their name to the Bernabeu. I have said I will do [the renovations to] the stadium and I am going to do it, but I have to overcome all the difficulties."

So ITV bin off Chiles and Townsend, hire Pougatch, and then don't even table a bid for the Premier League highlights? **** is Pougatch actually going to be doing next season? Half a dozen home England matches?

          ITV didn't even bid?

Presumably they've still got CL games?
          Oh I don't know.

That's instead of Sky, no? Is there no free to air / subscription split going forward?

Not one that I actually want to hear the opinions of, or can even bare to hear the opinions of. I wonder how many £millions they're on collectively.

Nope. They won all UK TV rights for them. However, it seems as though BT will create a new subscription channel for them. Yet more money to cough up.

Dear me. That is pretty disgraceful on UEFA's part.

So to watch the final, you will have to pay? How is that good for anyone?

I wonder if ITV are going to go nuts and bid on live match packages? They won't be paying out for the CL, so maybe they'll lump on to the ten game Friday night package or something?

                            You might be right.

                            When do we find out?

Don't think ITV can compete with Sky and BT for any of the live game packages.
