Mesut Ozil: Arsenal midfielder quits Germany over 'racism and disrespect'
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has quit international football, citing the "racism and disrespect" he has faced in Germany over his Turkish roots.
The 29-year-old was criticised after being photographed with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a London event in May.
He says he received hate mail and threats and was being blamed for Germany's disappointing World Cup.
"I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose," Ozil said.What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Can't blame him really if he's received the abuse he says, and he doesn't see it getting better any time soon.
The far right have been well on his case apparently, politicians too, no idea how much support he's had, but he obviously feels let down by the the German Fa.Comment

I can sympathise with the 'German when they win, immigrant when they lose' stuff.
However, he also needs to take some personal responsibility for the fallout from the Erdogan endorsement. There are legitimate criticisms to be made there - he should address those instead of focusing on the bigotry, although I accept that must be difficult.Like blood on ironComment

Thought this was quite an interesting little nugget. He's doing a decent job and is reasonably highly rated. I don't quite know what I expect them to be saying, but I always think it's gonna be levels up from this sort of stuff. "Show quality" - well, yeah, no **** boss. WOW max 2k!!!!! That is poor, no wonder the SPL is ****.I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty.
