No TV channel had coverage in Australia until the semi finals. There is coverage of so many leagues on different channels so I’m sure it wasn’t financial.

Not sure I agree with that.Originally posted by Rafa Justice View PostSky will know the competition is in poor shape and not going to get more people subscribing, and that's all they care about.
It'll be well watched on free TV simply because it's free. Unusual for ITV and BBC to be sharing something that isn't considered one of the crown jewels events like the WC or the Euros.
But then again I don't work for Sky so I don't know either way.Oh I don't know.

Well Sky didn't make a bid for the CL on the last two auctions as they knew it didn't bring in the revenue required to cover the costs of the rights. Made up something like 2% of their ratings so they invested the money they saved elsewhere (original entertainment content).Originally posted by dom9 View PostNot sure I agree with that.

Same will go for the FA Cup. If BT Sport can let it go FTA then Sky certainly won't stump up the rights for it.
Will be interesting to see what BT Sports lets slip away now they've been around for a few years. Their rights packages are starting to come up for renewal so they'll have a good idea what's worth keeping and what isn't.

Sorry, I meant they didn't increase their bid.
When BT first won CL rights in 2013 Sky bid but got wind of the rights hitting £900m and walked away. They could have bid more but knew it wasn't good value.
There's paper talk of Sky bidding for the next lot this year but who knows. Now they're in bed for selling each other's sports channels, maybe they're working on a way of lowering the price between them, like they did with the last lot of PL rights.
