I think it's fair to say that Scotland was a trailblazer in terms of empowerimg its super clubs and killing competition.

I used to chuckle at the sheer ridiculousness of the duopoly there. But now in Italy, Germany and France there are apex clubs on 5, 6, 9 leagues in a row. Spain is an equal embarrassment.

Then the next tiers down all over Europe are even worse.

Football in Europe is in a complete state.
    Oh I don't know.

How did they do that? (that's not a challenge, I have no idea)

It's just economics I suppose. But the league business model facilities it.

What about their business model facilitated it?

The way the leagues are structured basically.

Contrast with American sports. The most capitalist country on earth has, somewhat ironically the most egalitarian sports leagues on the planet.

The way that revenue is shared and distributed, the draft system. It completely ensures that short term domination can never become a long term dynasty.

In Europe, success compounds success, more than ever. To the point where too many leagues are now just a procession.

I was just having a look at some of the least varied leagues in Europe working down the UEFA coeffficient rank for the first 6 (and then Scotland).

Celtic or Rangers have won 50 of the 54 league titles since England won the world cup. The post war years to 1966 were positively diverse with 7 different winners in 20 seasons.

Portugal 4 different winners in the last 20 season but only 2 different winners in the last 18.
France 8 different winners in the last 20 years which is surprising given it includes 7 in a row for Lyon and 7 in 8 for PSG. Essentially any year not won by those two was a unique winner
4 different winners in Italy and 1 year no title. 1 unique winner 20 years ago but the last 9 for Juve.
Spain 4 unique winners but RM or Barca 15 of the last 16
Germany 5 different winners but Bayern 7 in a row
England, 6 different winners but even then 16 of them are MU, MC, or Chelsea.

              Pretty grim

Looks like HMRC are clamping down on image rights in lieu of salary.

Definitely something they should be tackling and such an easy win with the attitude people have to footballer incomes (even compared to other entertainment industry figures like actors and musicians) but still chickfeed compared to corporate tax shenanigans

Seems like they are fairly slow on the uptake if they have only just realized this...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

No doubt the government can make a big deal about it so that it looks like they are doing something to tackle the rich and inequality etc without hurting themselves or any of their mates. ...not that I'm cynical at all

                          How many City players?

Dont they all get paid their image rights offshore, by a third party?
