He’s a defender converted to a striker. Old habits are hard to break

To be honest I do not see why he would be suspended if he was not charged by police.

That is not me saying he is guilty or not guilty as I have no idea obviously, but until he is formally charged by police or the police give the club notice that there is enough evidence being compiled to see him charged in the near future, then whoever the player is should not be named or essentially outed through being suspended.

It's a bad look for the sport though. Would be sick if it was one of our players. United and Everton did the right thing with their accused

It is but whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty ? If there’s enough proof & they’re charged it’s more damning though.

What’s the world coming to when an absolute bellend can earn £10m per year

Former Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard, 29, is considering a move to Saudi Arabia, where he could earn £10m per year. The England player's United contract expired last month. (Daily Star)

Did they not suspend their players after they were charged though?

A worse look would be outing players, or anyone for that matter, and treating them like they were guilty before any charges were brought.

What if the club suspends a player, his names gets out and he gets called a rapists, then something comes to light that he did nothing?

He will still have the stigma of being called a rapist sticking to him and people tend to remember the accusations a lot longer than any retractions.

Now if he does get charged and if he is guilty then I hope he is named, shamed and spends a long time in prison, but without even a hint of any damning evidence (like the recordings of what Greenwood did) and formal charging by the police, punishing someone publically does not sit well.

Rape is a horrific crime. A truly repulsive and cowardly thing to do to another person and it is something that is not punished harshly enough imho, however being wrongly accused of it is something that could destroy lives as well.

Better to wait a little longer and be correct in charging/convicting a person, then to rush in and potentially be wrong or create a loophole for a guilty individual to exploit.

I should be worth at least £50m a year

Negative. Neither has been charged. Even the Everton player who was arrested near enough 12 months ago

Greenwood is out on bail though and there was video and audio put up by the woman who said he allegedly attacked/assaulted/raped/threatened to kill her.

Sigurdsson is also allegedly on bail.

Not quite sure how the law works in the UK but I assume if you need to be released on bail that means the police had enough evidence tht required bail conditions to be set and met.

The London player by all reports was released after questioning with no bail conditions being set.

Either way I would want there to be clear evidence and clear police involvement (by that enough to show that the police have pressed charges or the police insisted on bail conditions being needed) before a player gets suspended let alone named.

It is too serious an accusation to just punish people on the accusation alone and too serious to potentially ruin a person's life if they were in fact innocent and too serious to risk ruining the case for a victim if an early action against the perpetrator ended up with the perpetrator getting a lesser or no sentence.

Like it or not there has to be a presumption of innocence until guilt is proven to at least a reasonable degree if not completely. I phrased that line on purpose to take into account civil actions.

**** the friendly between Villa & Leeds in Brisbane is anything but friendly. Young Archie Gray took a Villa player out & Inthink it was McGinn went over the ball into the 16 yrs ankle & he’s gone off on a stretcher. Could be a broken ankle or ligament damage but he was in a lot of pain. Bamford was getting a lot of attention too.

Decent crowd around of 40000 too.

And Coutinho had a penalty saved & Ings scored a penalty to give Villa a 1-0 lead after 78 mins.

Maybe they thought it was a tryout to play for Brisbane Roar
