It was about missing out on major targets and settling for lesser players.

We appear to have had 2 windows were we missed out on 4 or 5 players who seemed major targets for Brendan. Mkhitaryan, Willian, Salah & Konoplyanka we have all had major interest in but have lost out on them for whatever reason.

Its becoming a habit and the club needs to review their policy otherwise we will inevitably have to settle for players of the Aspas, Alberto, Moses, Cissoko, Ilori ilk that are either gambles for the future, loans or just not good enough

Firstly, handle negotiations quicker. Salah's agent said as much. Don't go after targets we can't aquire or stop signing useless players and put the cash towards bigger signings

Agree with that, but we seem to go after quality players, Miki Ryan, Costa, Willian, Salah and Konoplanka but time after time fail. Then we go and sign some average squaddie like Aspas or one for the future in Alberto. Poor strategy IMO.

Scuppered by agents again. Oh well. There's no way FSG are going to be filling their greedy coffers. And the Russian owner doesn't want to sell anyway so won't/can't do anything about it.
          One tit for another.

Bring back Rick Parry, how I miss those magical transfer windows when he used to pack up his best ties and go on holiday with his mobile phone switched off.

                What is your solution?

                Throw money at the problem?
                Sack the negotiators?
                Something else?

Assuming you know what the root cause of the problem is.
                Oh I don't know.

People moaning about the agents but couple of radio reports I've heard this afternoon said it was the owner.

End of the day, whether we sign this guy or not we shouldn't be in this position frantically scratching around with 5 hours of the window to go especially when this transfer window has alredy yealded **** all for us.

Revealed: The real reasons Liverpool's Yevhen Konoplyanka deal is hanging by a thread

                            OPINION BY DAVIDMADDOCK

Our man David Maddock on what's stopping the Reds from completing their move for the Ukrainian winger

With Liverpool now thought to be suddenly casting their transfer net elsewhere, it seems any deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka is a dauntingly long way off.

While talk of a proposed deal for Nacer Chadli is probably still a little fanciful at this stage, there is no doubt the Reds are now very nervous about their chances of completing a deal in Ukraine.

The reasons are two-fold. Contrary to reports from Wednesday onwards, no agreement was ever reached over a fee, merely an idea of the asking price the winger's club Dnipro would command.

That is in the region of £15million, but the club have made it clear if they accept an offer of that level, it would have to be paid in one immediate lump sum, which is rarely the case in football at this level.

Liverpool have been trying to talk about structuring the deal to be paid over the more normal instalments, but so far have met stalemates.

And it seems depressingly usual in these cases, there are now also some concerns over the myriad extra fees to be paid to agents involved in the process...which currently stand prohibitively in the many millions.

The biggest single reason a deal is still a long way off though, is the identity of the man who ultimately owns Dinpro.

He is the multi-billionaire Ukraine Oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi, who controls one of the country's most powerful and influential businesses the Privat Group, which is based in the city. He also happens to be the second richest man in Ukraine, and in the top 50 wealthiest people in the world.

So he doesn't need the cash, that's for sure, and Liverpool's only bargaining tool is that the player's contract is up in 18 months, which means his value drops with every passing week.

That though, is not a concern for a man who is a high profile figure in Ukraine society and has a flamboyant business reputation to protect - so he REALLY doesn't want to be seen to doing anything other than drive a viciously hard bargain.

Konoplyanka does desperately want to sign for Liverpool, but he won't rock the boat too much at a club he has been with since he was a young trainee.

The better news for Liverpool fans though, is the deal is still alive...just. They have not given up hope of striking an agreement, and sources at the club suggested they will continue to push right up until the 11pm deadline.

And it remains still possible to pull it off, with the delegation out in Ukraine led by MD Ian Ayre also containing a medical man who can offer at least a rudimental fitness test to push any deal through.

                                [QUOTE=Chris;2827310

Not saying everything is perfect at all but the idea you know the exact details of multi million pound business discussions/transactions is ****ing laughable. How is it definitely our fault? And not Dnipro's? Not his agents? Why us?[/QUOTE]

Thats ok if you look at just this transfer in isolation but ehat about Salah, Willian & Mkhitaryan

Do we lay the blame for all those deals failing to complete at the feet of nefarious external forces or should the club be reviewing jow they operate in the hope of improving their chances next time round.

I have said it before and I will say it again we face greater competition for good quality players than at any other era in our history. As such we have to be swifter, smarter and more cute than our competition at times it doesnt appear to be the case
